I went outside and the sun was shining
The wind was chilly, the air was cool
(A perfect fall day for sitting and pining away
For the lover who made me a fool).

I took up my shovel and started walking
(Instead of sitting and pining away)
The cat walked with me and we were talking
(She said "meow", and I answered “hey”)

The clouds blew in from the western sky
In damp and billowy pillows of grey
They lingered above me, beginning to cry
(Like I might be, sitting and pining away)

But I was done sitting, and I was done pining
My shovel was digging up black dirt and clay
I worked in the garden instead of reclining
(I say it was work but it felt more like play)

So I played some more while the sky kept on dripping
Its drops on the plants and the dirt and me
And winter will come with its colder wind nipping
And cover with white all the things that we see

When winter is done then the sun will start shining
A little bit warmer, the blossoms will bloom
For me there will be no more sitting and pining
I’ll wax and I'll wane
And remember the pain
But fill up the gloom
Knowing you were my doom
And be glad that I sent you away

Aww....thanks, sugar. It's a horrible thing to have to relate to. But, well, that's life, and mistakes, and grief.

I appreciate your posting a comment. I actually wrote it in 2008, but tweaked and edited just for this month's WC.
