I don't think they are literally interested in our soul, it is just a metaphor for how they wish to control us. Keeping us in fear and thus in control, while we fight each other and vote for puppets that we believe can make a difference.

They don't want our soul, but they do seek our silent contempt and obedience, which is almost an equivalent.

Yes that's true, but I still believe that nowadays it is far more easier to control a population and keeping them in the dark with all the technology distractions and surveillance tech around us.

I sure hope so. Most people still are not aware they have something to fight against.
