A new AWB from Congress is unlikley. Very unlikley. Even if somehow a Democratic majority ended up controlling the House and the Senate an AWB is a death sentence to all but the pols from the most fanatically anti-gun districts.

After November Obama has no election to worry about and doesnt need any bills from Congress to being about changes or outright bans.

Neither did Clinton:

Today's executive order permanently bans the importation of more than 50 types of assault weapons, primarily modifications of the AK-47 and the Israeli Uzi but also including other models. The ban comes after a review by the Treasury Department, which oversees the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. At a White House Rose Garden event Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin explained what led to today's executive order. Link

Clinton also moved by Executive Order to ban the import of assault pistols like the Israeli-made Uzi and tightened up the licensing rules for gun dealers.

Obama has already shown he isnt opposed to using EO's to affect firearms:

A U.S. judge on Friday, in a victory for the Obama administration, upheld new federal rules requiring gun dealers in four states bordering Mexico to report the sales of multiple semi-automatic rifles, despite a challenge by the gun industry. Link

The Obama administration, apparently by executive decree, has enacted new rules that make it easier for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to seize the guns of citizens without due process of law. A Washington Times report issued on Thursday provides the details. Link

A Clinton-style AWB is not the single concern. Next time somebody goes off on how impossible an AWB would be to pass remember the POTUS doesnt need one.

Certainly not a POTUS with "more flexibility".

I agree with this if the congress majorities stay the same even if Obama does win re-election the house stays GOP don't see it happening.

If Romney wins don't see it happening.

Now the Un small arms treaty is another story.
