Hi all,

I have been quite ill this last week and been listening to loads of music to try and pick myself up a little bit...

Anyway, I was messing about with the PC and found the Windows Movie Maker and started messing about with the song, Englishman in New York, by Sting, which is one of my all time favourite tracks, I have always been drawn towards it....

I haven't really done this kind of thing before, I suppose I am a bit of a 47 year old technophobe, but I just thought that some of you may like to have look and see what I came up with....

Don't expect it to be the best video production ever made, but I just wanted to share it with you anyway....

Cheers

Davethebear.................

The combination of song and images shows your fine wit, Sir! Very nice. I am no expert in these things, just an appreciator.

Loved the video, very funny

I would like to say however as an Englishman that we toast our bread on both sides just like everyone else. I don't know where Sting got that lyric from

Yeah davespanners, I never understood that part of the lyric either, but I will go along with it just for the sake of the song, which I have always felt very attached to. I suppose it has something to do with being an englishman haha..........................cheers

The song was apparently first written about the gay icon Quentin Crisp.
en.wikipedia.org...

I've always considered it a gay liberation song, especially in the years (1988) of AIDS as a "gay plague" and the upsurge of homophobia this caused.
It seemed the gay liberation of the 1970's had stalled, and under the moral majority we had indeed gone back to being "little aliens".

It took a lot of courage to be openly gay again, especially as an upfront "queen" like Crisp.

I don't think songs with effective political double meanings like that are written much nowadays.

Most hard rock in my youth had a thinly veiled sexual message (although mostly in a ridiculously hyper-heterosexual sense), but the aim of duplicity in meanings has now become unnecessary, because porn and the Internet has made sexuality freely available.

Oh those were the days ...
