Saw MASSIVE Military Hardware in convoy from Fairchild to McChord/Ft. Lewis. Couldn't ID.

So i was driving back with my gf last night at 2 am from her house which is in Parkland literally right next to the runways at McChord. Anyways we were leaving her house around 2 AM and I was listening to her problems, when on the opposite lanes of HW 512 I saw a MASSIVE piece of hardware surronded by police and MP and other security. To be honest I didn't have my glasses but it was HUGE and looked like a rocket with the escorting vehicles all lit up like christmas. After I saw that pass us and drowned out what my gf was saying for a second I resumed her important converstaion when I saw another convoy of 2 HUGE sem-trucks driving parallel with each other, unmarked and with additional security. Needless to say this peaked my curiousity and I wanted to know if anybody else has seen scenes of other military buildup and could possibly answer maybe what I saw.

Hmmm.. Great catch! That's what I love about ATS. There is always someone close to whatever is happening to see and report it. lol..... I almost skipped right over this looking for photographs of what I've seen twice in Wyoming for Minuteman II missiles being moved but it seems images of that are lacking.... Odd thing, because it's quite a spectacle.

However, I stopped and looked closer...and this explains Fairchild's importance perhaps?

Could they have been moving something in or out related to what they do there? The middle of the night would be the time to minimize hazards and headaches with traffic on the street, IMO...?

were they carrying parts to a wind turbine? ive seen the cops escort them because they take up the entire road and are enormous

How do you know it was coming from Fairchild?

There's nothing in the OP suggesting that.

I assume it was coming from Fairchilds cause it was heading east to west but it could have came from anywhere I was just trying to make an educated guess. It's just weird hearing about some of the things my gf has told me that's going on in the base mainly large amounts of ozzies coming to and fro receiving specialized training. Just sounds like a buildup in the west U.S. and Pacific area. My guess is a steady containment of China but maybe I'm just war mongering lol.

You were DRIVING at night WITHOUT your glasses? Now that's pretty scary right there! And your curiosity was "piqued." Good. Highway 512 goes to Puyallup, right? OK, then 167 from Puyallup could take you up to I-405 which could take you to I-90, I giess, which is the only easy route over the Cascade Mountains. I suppose they could have taken SR-12 to I-90 directly, but I can't see how it would fit.

SO, bottom line is I'm having trouble imagining such a convoy getting to JBLM and even a harder time thinking it came from Fairchild, which is an AFB. I mean, if it could be carried in an airplane, even something like a Guppy, why not fly it directly to McChord?

Are you sure this thing didn't come from Boeing Renton or some place closer?
