Kids and adolescents nowadays are thugs, no manners or respect and no honor. The days of "you shall honor your father and your mother" are quickly disappearing. We are heading straight into the maw of chaos and many parents are being held hostage in their own homes that they pay for by children who mouth the words "social services" at them anytime they make an attempt to discipline them. Now the roles are reversed and the children are the parents and the parents have become the children. It's why i don't want children myself, because i grew up old school and my kid gives me lip they'd be picking themselves up off the floor with a fat lip growing because i'd bitchslap them into next week.

your post seems to have a lot of anger and fear (or worry) in it, and i am not from the part of the world that you are, and i guess i dont know a whole lot about it, but is it really that bad? surely there are good kids and good parents too where you live - well i hope that there are, anyway.
in re: the OP i'm used to seeing the opinions and bias of the publication that is the source, and it bears no relation to the truth that i see around me, especially as it relates to my field of work and where i live - to me i see more "it's all going to hell" headline grabbing that has gone on forever. as far as the OP article is concerned, the teacher had a negative role in this (as did the student) but i have covered that in my posts through the thread, so i 'm gonna try not to annoy people by droning on it

what you said about you not wanting kids and why, made me think.. i'm assuming (and stand to be corrected) that you never cheeked your dad in the way you refer to at the end of your post.. was this purely out of fear for being punched into next week, or was it because of the admiration you had for him, that you loved him, and that deep down inside you knew that even if he disagreed most strongly with you and sometimes imposed boundaries that were hard to keep to, that you knew he loved you and wanted you to be the best person you possibly could be? i really hope that it was the latter, and tough love doesnt have to be delivered on the end of a right hook.

and just as an aside, as a parent and as someone who has lived residentially with children with seriously challenging behaviour (in loving, nurturing residences where we cared about the well being and moral upbringing of the kids in question), if anyone says "i'm calling social services" and that whole blackmail/threat angle etc etc then i could always choose to point out the situation that they live in, and give them a chance to think about comparing that to life a childrens home, pointing out the phone and yellow pages at the same time.

Teachers have the right to restrain students and that is outrageous. He used restraint tactics, and protection of self and others.

There are no laws against that and he can take this to the highest courts. And I think people need to start finding excellent, PRO BONO help in courts myself, its time to get some big wig lawyers to work for us free of charge to take back our countries from the unlawful legislations. And find some good judges too.

Robert Cox held the 16-year-old boy's arms and pinned him to his chair after being soaked by the drink and suffering a torrent of abuse from the student.

Mr Cox said he feared the boy was about to throw the chair at him. After he let the teenager go, the pupil did pick up a chair and threw it, although not at Mr Cox.

Daily Mail

Teachers in the UK face being sacked if they restrain a pupil from throwing chairs, despite also being soaked by the same pupil with a banana milkshake.

Who is going to teach young people some respect for other people rather than a heightened awareness of their own 'rights'?

parents need to be able to spank their kids without fear of "abusing" them. i was beat when i acted out, and guess what, i dont anymore.

he has the right to restrain only under certain circumstances. he was provoked and took the bait... as the teacher states in the article, he was afraid the kid would throw a chair, and that an incident like this had never happened to him before - so he's gonna restrain a student because of fear? if his nerves are that bad he probably needs extra support from his colleagues and maybe a chance to de-stress either by some gardening leave or a good moan to the mrs and a roll in the hay.
there were other staff there too, if he was afraid he should probably leave the area and let the staff member who was already dealing with this get on with their efforts. he can always go and get help from other staff if he fears what may happen - this would be a more professional course of action and would not have resulted in him having an employment tribunal.
as for unlawful legislation, well if it's gone through parliament etc, then it is lawful (unless you are making some maritime law/magna carta ref, which is another matter entirely), and we get what we vote for

i'm really disappointed in myself that i never took into account the effect that this incident had on that banana milkshake, and those that love it. i fear that my own prejudices and misguided beliefs that strawberry milkshakes are inherently superior are to blame and i will susequently re-examine my life, possibly opting for a life of quiet contemplation and modest service to banana milkshakes in areas of milkshake based conflict worldwide.

Not really, if the teacher had an innie she would of been paraded around the country as a hero. Feminists in the UK have used any and every excuse they could to drive men out of the teaching profession. Because feminism is a female supremacist hate movement. And by controlling the educational process they can guarantee that the institutionalized discrimination against male students stays in place.

Since when have men ever been in the teaching profession? I think the last time was during the 1800s.

In most countries it's under paid compared to places men can go and current stereotypes imply it's a woman's position to teach. Also some people (mistakenly) link sex crime statistics to men being unable to teach women.

That's nothing to do with feminism. I'm not saying that there aren't persons that honestly (and mistakenly) believe that men can't or shouldn't teach ... I think conservative mysogynists are just as bad as extreme feminists in this particular area ... but it is zero to do with feminism being a hate movement hell bent on destroying men.

I'm a feminist. I think there should be more male teachers. It frustrates and upsets me that just because women dominate in a particular area it's instantly declared to be hateful feminism. A group of women teaching is no more feminism than a building site full of sweaty men is declaration of male dominance.

The outcome of this event seems a bit harsh but frankly women high school teachers have been fired for having racey photos taken five years ago or being drunk in public. This type of reaction by modern high schools is not new or rare and applies to women and men alike. It's often followed by a little public out cry but no one withdraws their students from the school or makes a stand.

It's simply easier to fire people than it is to defend them when children are involved for right or wrong.

Actually it has everything to do with it. You know the reason why women where able to control Britians educational system since the late 1800's? Because at a particular school, a particular homosexual principal(or whatever they call it in Britian) tried to advance the idea of Greek "boy-love". This was during the period when the Greeks where fighting against the Ottomans and tried to use Greece's ancient history to drum up support, so Ancient Greece was a fascination of the West at that time.

Well feminist's in britain used homophobia as a reason to kick men out of the teaching profession(around this time the phrase "He who rocks the cradle rules the world") after the son's of a few wealthy family's fell victim to homosexual pedophiles.

Fast forward to the present day, and feminist's have created the idea they advanced in the educational system, that no woman should serve a day in jail no matter the crime she committed.

Added to the fact that feminism is a hate movement, and many head mistress's in British school seek to advance feminist ideology. It has already been documented that feminist teachers consciously or unconsciously discriminate against male students. Give them less attention and brush their educational needs aside( a growing trend throughout the feminist controlled west's educational systems).

The whole notion of "that is the extremist feminist's" rings no truth as all feminist's are extremist's. After all, how many moderate feminist's have publicly condemned the SCUM manifesto, a book on par with Hitlers Mein Kumpf? Ohh wait none, instead it is celebrated among fringe and mainstream feminist's alike. Combined with double standards, supporting of discrimination against men in healthcare, auto insurance, and child custody. Not to mention the sheer and blatant bigotry in regards to domestic violence legislation and enforcement, rape law's and the enshrinement of female privilege; to deny the simple truth that Feminism is an out and out hate movement is an act of bigotry in of itself!

Actually, I understand full well how many can view feminism as something other than a hate movement, they are misogynists. Me? I view women as human beings capable of all the things human beings are capable of: from the good, to the bad, but mostly to the in-between.

While a misogynist will think that "what does it matter?", because they view women as so utterly inferior that they are incapable of acting in a hateful, bigoted or in a manner that oppresses or persecutes others. Either way I care not. Te bigotry of others is their own problem not mine(unless of course they are bigoted against me but that is what it is, more insulting for someone to be a bigot with a smile that tries to deny their bigotry then someone who is atleast honest about it).

You're joking, right?

In America there are plenty of male teachers to go around.

Secondary schools aren't bad but I wouldn't say it's an even distributed profession.

Some stats
