I 100% get what the poster is saying.
Also the bible condemns icon idolatry, which the cross is.

Leave it to a materialistic society to need something physical to bow to...

For me the cross is a symbol. A symbol of great suffering and pain.

And so we automatically want to worship a symbol of pain, right?

OK. Let's talk about ordinary people, the commoners.
If a loved one died in a car crash, would you wear a car necklace to remember them.
If a practice is ridiculous, then it deserves mocking.

This post of yours shows a severe lack of understanding.

Jesus didn't die accidentally like in a car accident. He embraced the cross.
He could have run away. He could have cut everyone down who was trying to
kill him. But he didn't. He went through with it because He knew it was what
He had to do. that's VERY different than someone getting into a car accident.

The cross being in Christian homes is a reminder of Jesus sacrificing Himself for others.
It's a sign of JESUS LOVE. It's a reminder of how much He gave up for others and that
we should 'take up our cross (whatever it is) and carry it' like He did.

It's a reminder that there are evil people in the world and that life won't be pleasant,
but that we must do what we have to. It's inspirational.

These posts are getting rediculously stupid.........they have nothing to do with "denying ignorance" and everything with religious intolerance....

The Nazis made similar statements....education with no moral compass still results in barbariansim.

Hey, some humor may be harsh, but it's still funny.

Here's a funny one against atheism:

Wrong. The cross isn't idolatry because it simply represents the intersecting point between the vertical and horizontal. A very profound message in itself.
Idolatry is bowing before mortals. The roman rulers loved to make statues of themselves.
It's almost exactly in line with what communist dictators do.
They first remove god and the put up huge murals of their profile-

Really? And where did you get that definition from? Yourself? Oh, I didn't know you had that authority...

I guess Webster's opinion goes out the window then.

i·dol·a·try/īˈdälətrē/
Noun:
Worship of idols.
Extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone: "idolatry of art".

I'd say the Christians do love their crosses. Makes them feel close to "God" or something. And they DO bow before it. I have seen it. If the cross doesn't bear such powerful meaning and command such reverence, why is there a cross behind every altar?
