To my knowledge the only time the Swedish military found an impact crater in a lake was in 1946. Lake Kölmjärv. The two witnesses described the crashing object as a 1.5 - 2 meter long rocket with small wings. The main hypothesis was that the Russians were testing rockets out of Peenemunde, some of them ended up in Sweden. There was no talk of flying saucers and extraterrestrial origin. As far as I can tell somebody connected with this 1948 document got their facts wrong.

So have any of these ghost rockets taken place in the US?

I would be curious where if they had.

This is fascinating!

But, I am a little confused... is this strictly a European thing..

EvenParanoidsHaveEnemies, don't know about reports from the U.S. but Richard Dolan states in his book 'UFOs and the National Security State' that as well as Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, ghost rocket reports were also coming in from Portugal, France, Tangiers, Italy, Belgium, Greece and India and witnesses numbered in their tens of thousands - many of the witnesses describing luminous cigar type objects which gave off no vapour trail and were completely silent - the objects were also reported to be seen in formation, breaking formation, manoeuvering and hovering.

Here's some more info from the book about British studies into the subject and the opinion of the scientific advisor to MI6, Prof R.V. Jones:

While the Swedes,Norweigans and Danes investigated and clamped down ,Britain and America provided some assistance. On August 23rd,British radar experts, back from Sweden, submitted secret reports to the British Government on the origin of the rockets.

Their conclusion: the objects were not of Soviet origin.

The scientific advisor to MI6, Prof R.V. Jones found it doubtful that "the Russians were supposedly cruising their flying bombs at more than twice the range that the Germans had acheived".

On September 9th the British Air Ministry's Directorate of Intelligence (Research) summarized the main features of the ghost rocket phenomenon and included eight types of sightings.

Famous Greek physicist Dr. Paul Santorini (the developer of the proximity fuze on the first A-bomb) also investigated the phenomenon for the Greek Government and makes some interesting comments about the objects not being missiles:

Dr. Paul Santorini, on UFOs over Greece in 1946.

In a 1967 lecture to the Greek Astronomical Society, broadcast on Athens Radio, he first publicly revealed what had been found in his 1947 investigation. "We soon established that they were not missiles. But, before we could do any more, the Army, after conferring with foreign officials (U.S. Defense Dept.), ordered the investigation stopped. Foreign scientists (from Washington) flew to Greece for secret talks with me." Later Santorini told UFO researchers such as Raymond Fowler that secrecy was invoked because officials were afraid to admit of a superior technology against which we have "no possibility of defense."

Secretary of Sweden's Defence Staff committee, Air Engineer Eric Malmberg also had this to say about the theory about the phenomenon originating in Russia - at the link taken from the Rockefeller Briefing document there's also an interesting report from a Swedish Air Force pilot who described the UFO as 'a dark, cigar-shaped object with no visible wings, rudder or other projecting part'.

"I would like to say that everyone on the committee, as well as the chairman himself, was sure that the observed phenomena didn't originate from the Soviet Union. Nothing pointed to that solution.
On the other hand, if the observations are correct, many details suggest that it was some kind of a cruise missile that was fired on Sweden. But nobody had that kind of sophisticated technology in 1946."

Well, considering the "Lacerta Files" were conducted in Sweden, and she says they operate various size silent cigar shaped craft, it is not out of the realms of possibility that after the human stupidity of WW2, the Sauran subterreaneans, came out to see what all the damage was.

She says they have colonies in Northern Europe, Asia near the Himalayas, central USA, Central Australia, and their offworld ones.

One day, Humans MAY have to get to grip with the possibility that we are NOT the most intelligent or dominate creatures on planet Earth.......Just the most populous and destructive!!...like a parasite.

There's this photo...

There's a very good run throguh of much of the phenomenon here.

Ghost Rockets

It's also worth remembering, the Ghost Rockets actually became almost an addendum to the "Ghost Planes" of the late 1920s and 1930s

Ghost Planes pre WW2

No big deal. Routine practise.

Any technological advance is of tactical advantage. You don't give those away. New technology under development needs to be tested.

In public, performance criteria and images are at risk of being exposed to other powers, so you simply discredit any sightings. Disguise the nature of the tests. Disguise the subject of the tests. Discredit of lend incredulous facets to the test subject. Portray your latest research as a UFO is always a win. People are sceptical when it comes to that sort of thing, so it's an easy win.

Even now most people have an open mind to the idea of UFOs, but faced with most sources, the first response is an ingrained disbelief and doubt as to the reliability of the source. Either way, all fingers point the other way.
