Thousands Believe Hoax That Obama Will Pay Their Utility Bills
This apparently has been in progress for a few months.

The scam involves contact by somebody telling you that some kind of Obama benefit will pay for your bills.

First, beware of anything "promising" that somebody will do things for you for free.
(many promises are usually always BeeEss)

With all the constant warnings pasted all over the place, we still see people fall over the cliff anyway.

Today's economic times make many more people vulnerable to anything at all that sounds even remotely true.

Authorities don't know who is behind this clever scheme.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — As much as President Barack Obama wants your vote, he's not actually offering to pay your monthly bills.

But thousands of Americans have been persuaded otherwise, falling victim to a fast-moving scam that claims to be part of an Obama administration program to help pay utility bills in the midst of a scorching summer.

The scheme spread quickly across the nation in recent weeks with help from victims who unwittingly shared it on social media sites before realizing they had been conned out of personal information such as Social Security, credit card and checking account numbers. ....[story continues]

I don't know if the scammers had any specific target list of phone numbers, but I bet they got a lot of hangups

There are "mailing" lists readily available from marketing companies.

I wonder if they used any specific criteria.

Get ready for a new onslaught of advertising for "I.D. theft insurance" !!

The sad thing about this is that there are so many gullible, ignorant people out there who would give away their personal info without checking on this first.

If Obama couldn't create jobs, rein in Wall Street, or cut taxes, what makes people think he'll pay their bills??

Sometimes when I see how stupid people are I wonder why I'm not rich.

For a con artist this world must seem like a dream come true. People are ready to believe ANYTHING if they think they'll get something for free.
