This is epic
Two low flying Mirage jets of the Brazilian Air Force shatter every window of the countries Supreme Court after making a Supersonic Fly Pass

You have to admit that was Awesome

The war planes had been taking part in the ceremony of exchange of the national flag at the Praça dos Três Poderes, at the Esplanada dos Ministerios.

No one was injured in the incident, but the shockwave was so powerful nearly every window in the court building was destroyed and a few in the Congressional buildings beyond.

But srsly, some foresight would've been handy. How can they not account for the sonic booms.

That was incredible, good thing I didn't have my headphones in. I guess some genius in the air force thought a supersonic flyby was a good idea for flag day. I'm going to look up mirage jets to see how fast those might have been going.

Not their fault. Sudden Unintended Acceleration

Dassault needs to be sued!

This applies to cars not jets

uncontrolled acceleration of a vehicle, often accompanied by an apparent loss of braking effectiveness.[1] Such problems may be caused by driver

Hi boom fans! B-)

I am VERY suspect on the **quality** of the building ! ! !

Usualy, you have "tempered glass" in the "upper" windows ! !
They are almost unbreakable !
You can throw a chair in it and it will BOUNCE back ! !
If NOT so?, it is VERY dangerous for the top floors of the building !!

Hope I am wrong. . .

Blue skies.

Two Sonic Booms From a low altitude would break any type of glass

oopsy!

That was awesome, thanks for sharing.

They weren't QUITE supersonic. They were doing an estimated 590kts at the time of the pass. They made one pass, which broke the windows on the front of the building, then made a second perpendicular pass that shattered more windows. The estimated damage was over $60,000, which the military will pay.

Basic science. The pressure wave from even near supersonic flight is directly related to altitude, and airframe/shockwave shape. An SR-71 at 80,000 feet had little chance of breaking windows on the ground, where the Concorde at 50,000 feet had a good chance of breaking windows.

The strongest shockwave ever recorded was an F-4 at 100 feet, and it was over 144lbs per square foot. That wasn't enough to cause injuries to the scientists, but that would cause damage to just about any building made. The pressure wave under more realistic flight is 21 pounds per square foot.

I think his point was that it was a blanket statement, and those are often untrustworthy.

I would never say a sonic boom could break all types of glass, and that is what was said - there are plenty of types of glass I can think of which would stand up to that type of energy.

Most ballistic glasses and anything to LPS 1270 standard should be fine.
