So Tennessee has enacted a bill witch bans gateway sexual activity apparently everyone was uncomfortable with it and did not know what it meant so they said screw it lets just call it the no holding hands bill

Spurred by a classroom demonstration involving a sex toy, Tennessee recently enacted a pro-abstinence sex education law that is among the strictest in the nation. The most debated section of the bill bars educators from promoting "gateway sexual activity." But supporters seemed too squeamish during floor debate to specify what that meant, so critics soon labeled it the "no holding-hands bill."One thing missing from the debate in the Legislature was a discussion of whether the law signed by Republican Gov. Bill Haslam last month really would help reduce Tennessee's high teenage pregnancy rate. Experts say it won't and warn that it leaves teenagers inadequately educated about sexuality and prevention of pregnancy and disease.

Just an fiy Tennessee blocking an entire states school system from holding hands because some creepy guy had a classroom demonstration with sex toys ( no not even joking ) is like setting fire to a box of kittens because a lion got lose from the zoo

Tennessee's pregnancy rate among girls 15 to 17 has dropped steadily since the first abstinence-focused sex education curriculum was put in place in the 1990s, according to figures from the state Commission on Children and Youth. In 2009, the latest data available, there were 29.6 pregnancies per 1,000 girls, down from a rate of 48.2 in 1998.Yet the state's teen pregnancy rate remains one of the highest in the nation, according to the New York-based Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive health research organization

Rep. Jim Gotto, who sponsored the legislation, disputed the way the bill is being characterized "It's not abstinence-only education," said the Nashville Republican. "I'm so sick of people trying to spin it as that ... because they don't like it. The law does specify that the curriculum has to be abstinence-focused, but they can talk about contraception."Proponents contend abstinence is the most reliable way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Tennessee education officials have said abstinence is already defined in the state's statute, and Haslam said he decided to sign the bill after they assured him it changed little

Could someone please explain to me how this could possibly be a good thing? and are they taking this to far?

Somehow I don't think that hand holding is the cause of the high teen pregnancy rate in Tenn.
And banning hand holding just makes the stupid, conservative, evangelical, legislators look even more stupid.

if someone doesn't want to hold hands, THEY DON'T HOLD HANDS!!!

how dare they do this, its unconstitutional, and its pure evil.

YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLE

YOU CANT

its driving me up the wall, im beginning to hate whoever in the world is making these laws, i don't know them, but i hate them.

who are they to tell human beings what to do?

i vote for freedom, not whatever this *BLEEP* is.

peace.

i hope that some day... everyone is just free, and can do anything they want, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

Strange that the more sex education children receive, the higher the teen pregnancy rate goes? Could that be because parents are dumping their responsibilities on the teachers perhaps?

This holding hands thing is silly though.

Why not call it the Controlled Sexual Activities Act and declare holding hands a Schedule I sexual activity (First Base for the lay people). Then years later a ballot measure could be put out where the people vote to "legalize" medical hand holding, but beware the Feds who will ignore the will of the people and continue to raid hand holding shops as the SEA (Sexual Enforcement Agency) continues their glorious expansion.

This is from a red state, you know the ones that want less government.

I wonder what happened if these governments focused on the economy instead of issues like this.

What a sad day for Tennessee, so can we assume if couples are holding hands walking down the street they can be arrested for sexual assault?

Right? This bill is so silly.

No holding hands...Give me a break. Parents hold their childs hands all the time. I hold hands with my Niece and Nephew.... There is nothing sexual about it!

No matter what, kids will have sex sometimes. It happens. Always has and always will. Pass any law you want...But teens and kids will mess around. They can make it illegal to be in the same room with the opposite sex, if they want.... But...Kids will drill a hole in the wall and mess around through the hole

I say it is better to teach them about responsibility, safe sex...Things like that... If they are going to mess around with each other, at least teach them to be safe about it...

Crazy.

How about they stop showing programs like "16 and Pregnant" on tv to teens or having idols like Snookie and that gaggle of morons. There have been pregnancy pacts in highschools because of the "16 and Pregnant" show. Teens are wanting to become "famous" and get on tv and they see teen pregnancy as a way without even know the consequences.

There are some backwards people in Tennessee if they think banning holding hands is gonna keep kids from having teen sex. Why not educate teens on safe sex? Teens will find a way to have sex no matter what, why not make sure they know how diseases are spread and how yes you can become pregnant the first time. I dont see anything wrong with proper sex education. Why is sex still taboo in this country yet everything you see is "sex sells," but oh no don't talk about it!

I can see it all now....

Squads of the most righteous, dressed in their snazzy red, white and blue uniforms looking for "hand holders" and other disgusting forms of affection displayed openly.

Detaining them until the representative from the morality police arrives to escort the unclean one's to their proper reeducation camps.

It's a brave new world....

Somehow it seems fitting that Tennessee ushers in the dystopian future. I always thought it would be my
home state of Texas but apparently Tenn. is closer to God than Texas.

if they are going to ban hand holding in schools they best ban children from any farms that have farm animals as well, cause ya know

farm animals do it too,

so what kids don't learn about sex in school or from parents they can still learn "on the farm" or in just about any Zoo in the country..

Oh and Definitely ban the internet, (I think even Wikipedia has a page on copulation) as you can look up the definition of sexual intercourse online..............
