2012 has been over milked and the cow is dry. They are probably busy working on new evidence that has been found on why 2012 didn't happen and movies to be released in 2013 that demonstrate why 2012 was wrong and the new date is really 2020.

You see 2020 is the year that we will have perfect vision (20-20) and it won't be distorted. Hence 2020 we will know the REAL truth.

I just wish the world would hit the reset button and use debt forgiveness methods for every person and every country. That would stop the incessant hand wringing on all the countries, banks and people who need bailouts and just reset all that derivatives crap and start over. I can handle my modest personal debt, but I can't stand all the moaning and groaning in the media about Greece, Spain, Italy and yes, the USA is right there with them. Stop the madness! Forgive and forget all the bad debts and start fresh! Why not?

Well, look at all the doom and gloom threads, where NOTHING has happened. Look at the disasters that occurred, and the after-effects never came to fruition; ie...Japan, Deep Water Horizon, Bird Flu, the Next Great Depression, etc, etc... People went back to sleep; which could be a very dangerous thing to do. Like someone just posted...the boy has cried wolf....one too many times. Scary part is....the wolf actually showed up...when least expected. I'm keeping my ears and eyes on alert. No time to sleep or get caught off guard!

The Mayan apocalypse is causing the recession.

Consumers are too scared of the end of the world, and are not spending money.

That's causing the recession.

The Apophis comet is coming soon. I'm sure people are lining up ancient texts right now to show how they "predicted it" and it's going to wipe out earth.

I'm seriously considering getting in on the action. I could easily BS people on it, probably earn enough to buy a new sports car.

That or fund the Booze Party Platform for a few years

I'm sick to death seriously of all the 2012 poopoo. We even have some people on here that are so swayed by Nancy Lieder's site that any science that comes along this person calls whomever puts it out a "Paid Knowledge Management Specialist" and refuses to respond to anyone who doesn't agree with them, sorta like Nancy, who doesn't allow decent.

You are absolutely correct Boncho, there is a great deal of money being made off of this fear and if it were truly coming to pass, as these people say, what the heck do they need with money.? It's yet another pyramid scheme in my opinion and will fall soon enough.

Oh yeah.. Vote Clueless 2012...

The apparent shortage of hype, even on ATS, is an interesting phenomonon, but I think I've seen it on previous occasions.
There were other days which were the subject of advance "predictions" on ATS. Leading up to the day in question, speculation would be intense..
Then, on the day itself- Nothing. It all died away almost overnight.
It's as if people could believe in the idea as long as it was still in the distance, but the cold reality of the day itself was enough to convince them it wasn't going to be out of the ordinary. They didn't even wait for the day to begin, let alone end, before abandoning the topic.
In the case of "2012", I think this pattern has already started. The speculation was being associated not just with one day but with the whole year. So we had intense speculation in 2009, 2010, 2011, but the actual arrival of the year 2012 may have been enough to trigger the "cold reality" effect. Now that we're in the middle of 2012, it's more difficult for people to believe in it as a mystical phenomenon.

You missed the point of the story. The point is that if you keep saying something that isn't true, people will stop listening to you. We, and by we I mean skeptical debunkers such as myself, knew Elenin was nonsense, yet no one listened. We also knew 2005 YU55 was not a threat to hit the earth or the moon in November. Again, no one listened. We knew Nibiru was a bunch of hogwash and nothing would show up and collide with/tilt/wreck our planet, and still no one listens. They only realize the truth after their doom fails to materialize. They refuse to understand that it's possible to know these things are nonsense ahead of time. Instead they keep touting nonsense and eventually the general public becomes disillusioned with it.

I think the hype has died down this year because even some of the "2012 planet x/nibiru" believers are starting to gradually realize that if "Nibiru" were real, we'd have all seen it by now and that 12/21/12 will come and go uneventfully. If they had something tangible to latch onto, even if it was utter nonsense in reality, the story might be different. As it stands no one has given them that. For example, if comet Elenin had come a year later than it did I think we'd be seeing exactly what the OP was expecting, with people talking about it nonstop and becoming more and more hysterical every day. Instead, people heard the wolf cry on Elenin and learned afterwards that it was nonsense. The story of the big bad wolf is a warning to little boys who cry wolf, not to the village people for not listening every time the little boy wants to spout nonsense. The moral of the story is not that the village people need to keep listening to people who are perpetually full of it, the moral is to be honest in the first place.

If you really want to learn the right lesson from that story, then you need to start critically examining claims of "doom" and not just support or repeat it because you're scared that this time it might "really be" the wolf. I say this not just to you Spittin, but to everyone who has an interest in these subjects. If you want to do the right thing, then learn how to critically examine these claims and be ready and willing to debunk them if they're nonsense. So far that's all they are, nonsense.

If one day a claim comes up that actually has merit, the people who were telling the truth all along about all the nonsense that preceeded it will be the ones that normal people listen to, not the doom mongers who spewed nonsense a hundred times before. In reality, those are the people who know how to tell fact from fiction. We don't just disregard claims simply because they're being made, we disregard them because they're wrong. If one ends up ever being right, we'll be speaking up about it and that's when normal folks will really start to perk up.

Just imagine for a moment that someone like Phage suddenly came on here one day and announced that a killer comet had been discovered that was likely on a course for impact. Once people got over the initial shock of thinking that maybe he's playing a joke, people would listen and word would spread like wildfire. That's because Phage has real credibility, you know he doesn't cry wolf and if he were to say something like that, there'd be real cause for alarm. Oh sure, a few of the most rabid wolf criers might ignore him out of personal reasons and simply because they're so out of it that they automatically think whatever he says is a lie, but that's beside the point. The point is, the wolf criers are not the only ones who can sound an alarm, and when the day comes that there's a real need to sound an alarm, they're not the ones people will listen to, but there are lots of people out there who can and will sound it on their own. The ones who aren't known for crying wolf will be the ones people turn to.

The hype has certainly been clouded by uncertainty regarding the whole subject, and to be honest I think it will stay that way until at least the early days in December.

People seriously ran out of steam on the whole subject.

But I can assure you that this forum will be chaos on or near December 21st 2012.

I remember the chaos with that blossom goodchild or whatever he name was with the whole galactic light federation story, the forum got out of control, good times. With that as an example I can only imagine what it will be like on december 21st lol.

It's my opinion that as the designated time comes closer a fw different factors are coming in to play as to why the 'hype' is dying down.

1. It was all fun and games to ponder while it was still far off, but now that the time is closing in, many have submitted to logical reason and feel less compelled to give credence to the 'prediction', the kind that come and go all the time.

2. Thoes who actually put stock in the fear mongering took the time to research this and discovered the mayan calander factually has nothing to do with a 'end of the world' scenerio thats played out in the media.

3. Now that the time is approaching, subconciously most have simply made the choice to ignore this prophacy and continue to live their daily lives.

Why? It is no different to any other year...

i really thought the date would be a huge story all year and everyone , everywhere would have been talking about it.

it is just a year between 2011 and 2013, there is nothing special about it.

i was hoping to buy some cheap goods from people when they started selling off their possessions.

Why would anyone sell off their possessions?

What are you on about, you make no sense!

IMO its because supposedly another older calendar was found and it goes past 2012. People went quiet that were getting hysterical over it all. I think a few are feeling kinda stupid and not hyping it on TV and internet so much
Look it up.. its all over the internet. Pick your fave trusted link.

"We had people believe absolutely that he was 100 percent right, they sold their homes, they sold their cars and all of their possessions. After the date came and went we had lots of people who were financially ruined. Spiritually, we had people who gave up their faith. There was even one boy in New Jersey who committed suicide as a result," Roy said.

Some have reportedly sold all their possessions and taken to the streets to warn people to prepare for the second coming of Jesus. In recent weeks, callers to Christian radio stations in the US have debated what to do about non-believing friends and neighbours who will be left behind to endure the wrath of God.

go troll elsewhere , tyvm.

It seems like it's talked about everyday on the Internet.

if you visit sites like ats yes , but i was thinking it would be part of msm as well.

i really wanted to buy some cheap toys or maybe a really cheap car before 12/21/12 .
maybe i assumed it would be a bigger story because it was such a small story for years and i remember how people couldn't stop talking about y2k in 1999.

I think if y2k was happening now instead of 2000 there would much more panic. People are much more invested with computers than they were 12 years ago.

As for 12/21 could the msm not covering it like crazy be because there is actually something to it and they got orders to not cover it hmm...

Or maybe they are not covering it to cover up the real reason for not covering it and if covered it would expose what they want to cover up, so by not covering it they have made people errantly think that a cover up is going on and thus once again stirring up fear mongering in thoes who can see through the ploy of non-coverage!

Or.... it's just not worth covering.
