Women 'Gets Pregnant' With 12 Baby Squid When She Eats Calamari

Ok, a friend of mine showed me this article and it was one of those "WTF" moments for me. I instantly thought, I definitely had to share this with ATS especially since this hasn't even been posted yet. I'm sure glad I hate seafood!

Here’s the pregnancy and seafood story you thought you’d never read: A 63-year-old woman became ‘pregnant’ with 12 baby squid after eating calamari.

She’s already been dubbed the ‘octo-mom.’

A woman from South Korea felt a sharp pain in her mouth while dining on cooked whole squid. She told doctors she felt something in her mouth– something squirming. The doctors found “bug like organisms” that turned out out be ‘baby cephalopods’ attached to her mouth.

i wouldn't eat anything that ever went near the ocean ever again....

This reminds me in a weird way when I was a kid, hearing things like if you eat a apple or pumpkin seed, you would start growing it in your stomach.. only this is much more gross.

It's not a literal impregnation of a Female Human.

Simply unsanitary cooking habits gone wrong by that particular restaurant that allowed these baby octopus to attach in her mouth.

Still... A gross thought when you think about it.

It's a little bit more than that.

These are small and sticky pods containing an “ejaculatory apparatus” and sperm. The apparatus expels the sperm forcefully, hence the pain. The baby cephalopods were removed from her gums, tongue and cheek.

The story comes via a scientific paper from the National Center for Biotechnology Information in Bethesda, Maryland. The paper says, “She did not swallow the portion, but spat it out immediately. She complained of a pricking and foreign-body sensation in the oral cavity. Twelve small, white spindle-shaped, bug-like organisms stuck in the mucous membrane of the tongue, cheek, and gingiva [gums] were completely removed, along with the affected mucosa. On the basis of their morphology and the presence of the sperm bag, the foreign bodies were identified as squid spermatophores.’

YIKES!

Fortunately,

Incidents involving the impregnation of human mouths appear to be confined to the Far East where, generally, more raw fish is eaten. When squid is prepared in the west, internal organs are removed meaning there is no risk of eating spermatophores.”

Still, this is creepy beyond Sci Fi! Imagine if she had swallowed!

So the image in the OP is totally misleading, to cause people to think the woman had a huge squid inside her.

When all it was were tiny organisms that they had to identify.

why do they do this every time. sensationalism just gets my goat.

as bizarre as it sounds, while we're at it, I would like to throw the 'alien' theory out there Alien Octopus?

I see folks losely throw around the HAARP, REPTILIAN words out there why not alien octupus?

Still wondering how is it possible? Isn't the stomach acid strong enough to digest any type of flesh (slow or fast) ?

I have made the octopus/alien correlation before! Octopi are smart as hell. Once, I heard one crawled out of his enclosure at a sea aquarium, across to floor of the room and up into the lobster tank for a feast!
