Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has died, a State Department official told CNN on Friday.
There were no more immediate details about his death.
Crown Prince Sultan, 81, was the deputy minister of aviation and defense, and was one of the top figures in the Saudi kingdom. He's had various medical issues in recent years.
In 2009, he was in New York for surgery for an undisclosed illness. At the time, there was speculation that he had been suffering from a serious illness.

Good riddance...

Hmm better wait till more facts come out till I start drawing conclusions, he was fairly old however.
Got the king and the prince mixed up for a moment, got my heart racing because as I understand there are some serious hard line Islamic fundamentalists that would love to take over and probably attempt a coup. Bit off topic but Saudi Arabia is another serious flash point to keep an eye on.

Now a new crown prince must be chosen from among his brothers and half-brothers, all the sons of Saudi Arabia's founder, Abdul-Aziz.
The figure believed most likely to be tapped as the new heir is Prince Salman, the current defence minister who previously served for decades in the powerful post of governor of Riyadh, the capital. The crown prince will be chosen by the Allegiance Council, an assembly of Abdul-Aziz's sons and some of his grandchildren.
