True: A Dingo Ate The Baby: DNews Nuggets

If you watched Seinfeld, you'll remember this famous scene:



The phrase was based on the 1980 case in Australia, where a 9 week old infant was carried off by a dingo. At the time it was doubted that a dingo could carry off an infant, so the mother was charged and convicted of murder. She served three years in prison for the incident.

Well, now things have changed once again. According to this article,

An Australian coroner has confirmed that in 1980 a dingo took 9-week-old Azaria Chamberlain, who would have turned 32 yesterday, away from her campsite near Ayers Rock, the red monolith in the Australian desert now known by its Aboriginal name Uluru. At the time of the incident Australians doubted a dingo was strong enough to drag a baby away, and such an attack was unheard of, but in recent years the wild dogs have fatally attacked three other children.

So perhaps this will bring some closure of sorts to the family.

Wow, I didn't know where that phrase came from. I only heard it as the name of Oz's band.

I feel sorry for the mother who had to spend time in jail after losing her baby to a dingo! How horrible!
