This is, and is not, a Doom and Gloom thread. I just want to address the issues. I will try to address each one in turn. First of all, the two main ones.

Crops

It has been said plenty of times that the earth can only provide so much resources. GMO crops can only do so much to feed the populace and produce non-viable seeds and non-GMO crops are venerable to various calamities, from funguses, insects and drought.

The arable land upon which to grow crops has been compromised, by various governmental regulations as to how it is managed, causing many who would farm to avoid it. Warfare has made being a farmer in certain parts of the world even more dangerous. And of course we have natural and man caused disasters adding to the mix. Everything from too many chemicals in the ground or water to growing arid areas…multiple dust bowls so to speak, Floods, Hurricanes/Tornados. The lack of rain or too much of it.

Power

There are various arguments as to how to meet the growing populace energy needs. Nuclear, Solar, Oil/Natural Gas, Wind, Hydro, etc, etc, etc.

The problem here is that Nuclear power produces waste that cannot be neutralized anytime soon. Wind and Solar power also produce toxins in the manufacture of the devices and to top it off, they have to be HUGE to adequately produce enough power, thusly impacting the environment in a negative manner. Hydro seems to be the way to go, but water tables are lowering throughout the world. So there is another problem to deal with. Those who look to Oil and Natural Gas are just postponing the inevitable as those resources run out over time. How much time we have left is still up in the air. The tech just does not exist in today’s world to address these needs.

So what is your answer TDawg you ask? It’s frankly simple and yet disgusting.

War on a global scale. I find it as distasteful as you.

As long as CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) was not used, the earth could heal and mankind would quite possibly survive and progress. But then we do have those pesky leaders who refuse to lose without taking down the other side. Such is the human mindset. MAD comes to mind here.

In my opinion, the human race is cruisin’ for a bruisin’.

Just my opinion and I hope no one is harmed in the future...but I see it no other way. Until humankind can all get along, this is the way it will play out.

Nope.

Overpopulation is a myth. There is PLENTY of a arable land to grow the food we need to sustain our current population growth. There is PLENTY of renewable energy sources that can be used in order for each nation to achieve energy independance.

This myth is perpetuated by eugenecists and globalists who want you to believe that we need to fight amongs each other for a piece of the pie, when there's plenty of pie to go around, if it's split up properly.

The problem with these two areas is that they are currently controlled by big corporate entities who have no interest in making food or energy cheap, renewable and available to all.

There's no money in that. So they perpetuate these lies to keep the status quo the way it is.

War is exactly the reason WHY we can't get along----it's not the outcome of it. War has been profitable for the people in charge for thousands of years, and while ordinary people are almost never willing to invade other ordinary peoples' lands to loot and plunder and occupy, TPTB who profit from it are always willing. The answer is not to take out more ordinary people, but rather to take out those who are constantly calling for war as a solution and making money off it. Make the military industrial complex a strictly non-profit industry and have ordinary people constantly watching their every move with full access to everything. Bet you'll see a hell of a lot less wars and strife after that.

We naturally want to get along, it's in our nature because it's in our best interest. We just let our other instincts to follow charismatic leaders to our deaths get in the way too much. Give us one freaking decade without war, and I bet we get the crops/water/power issues solved.

This. Exactly what i say when i see the depopulation topic come up.
It's a myth, It doesn't make any sense. Eventually it will. We have the land, the technology, to have a population of over 10 billion.

Also: The average birth/death rate will even out around 10 billion, and keep the population stable. Nature is self regulating and we are part of nature. Its just that we're doing it wrong right now.

Well you and Ted Turner can lead us all by example and reduce your carbon foot prints 1st.

We can farm vertically saving lots of land space.
We can use already known techniques like solar panels on all homes for energy.
We can educate the population in the right direction, not the Jersey Shore direction.
We can stop dividing and conquering overseas and use "our" money to help ourselves.

Just a few ideas. Oh, and we can physically remove the problem politicians and CEOs causing these worsening problems.

There's technology being held back from us" they" have convinced u this is the solution....haven't u heard of teslas free energy device ...if we all work together trade every soldiers gun for a shovel I'd be surprised what can be achieved if everyone worked together and learned to live in peace and stop destroying our home

With as much land that is out there that we don't even use I have a hard time seeing the argument for overpopulation. We don't only grow crops out any more but we grow them up now with vertical gardening. You don't even need soil to do this.
I've also heard the argument that we are running out of water. Maybe readily available water to instantly drink but I assure you there is plenty of water.

I think the problem is the more of us there is the harder it is to control us.

lol seriously? have you been in a war zone? have you seen your family members body parts fly in the air?

Anyway....

Even tho earth is not overpopulated like its been mentioned in news, media and rumors but some countries do need regulations. Best way is to limit childbirth. that alone will lower the population.

Maybe they'll just run out of bottled water (god forbid..)
But last i checked, water is constantly recycled. Its one of those things the earth does to keep water moving on the planet.

Your pee? Yeah, its in the clouds too.
The sweat on your body? also in the clouds.

Water will -never- disappear from this planet until the sun gets too hot and it all evaporates. (couple million years)

Actually, potable fresh water is going to be a huge problem in the future, it's actually one of the main concerns regarding overpopulation. The truth is, there just isn't enough Fresh Water to go around right now.

However, we do have the tech to convert salt water into clean, drinkable water, but it's expensive and most nations do not want to build the infrastructure to do such things.

But it can be done.

AS long as staple goods to survival are looked at as a capitalist enterprise than yes, Population is a problem.

A more... Socialist (heaven forbid...) approach to staple survival goods such as food, water, and electricity, would allow for sustainable growth.

In other words if humans mature and learn to share (you know the hard way) baring that, yea depopulation is probably much easier than getting us to actually get along and be good stewards over this planet...

The worlds pop is heading for stable 10bil btw, the rampant growth thing is a myth, we will probably stabilize at 10 bill soon and maintain it for atleast a few hundred years by current trends that is.

Vid explaining why pop growth is under control.

I know it can.
Its about profit though, not about human life. Human life comes after profit. If there was some way they could tax the air around us, im sure they would.

In a world not controlled by profit margins, it could happen yes. Hell, you could turn any water into drinkable water if you have the infrastructure to clean it for drinking purposes.

But it still rains. And it will always rain as far as i can tell. That aint pee falling from the sky
. It would also need to be cleaned of toxins too though.

Notice how almost all the fresh water is owned by private corporations.. funny how they say 'there is not enough',

I don't get it. First you say that depopulation is PROBABLY the answer which implies you think we should depopulate the planet. Then you go on to say you hope no one is harmed. Which is it?

No the vast majority of fresh water is owned by Canadians...not corporations

Or it's tied up frozen somewhere...

But I agree, profits before life, this is why things need to change if we are to move forward.

Bingo.

The overpopulation lie has been debunked a hundred million times.

You could fit every single person on the planet into an area the size of Texas.

scale

OP, this should make you angry. There are millions of people STARVING to death every day and the same people trying very hard to convince YOU that YOU'RE the problem, are the exact same people who are really responsible for it.

Imagine we used the money we would spend on that war, and all the money that is currently being spent on war, put those funds into something else such as advancing technology and we would be soo much better off.
Population wouldn't even be an issue if things were so much more efficiently run, instead of showing off who can beat who.

We'll over population makes it harder for TPTB to control us. They could sustain all of us with their finances if they really cared. I mean I live opposite the ____ Something for refugees and I see kids out there sleeping on the streets every night. Surely they can at least build up a small shelter within their premises? But nooooo, they genuinely care about the well being of mankind.

I live near Lake Superior, so I foresee myself selling expensive bottles of water in the future. Joking aside converting salt water into potable water also takes enormous amounts of energy, from what I have been told anyway.
