Our politicians are corrupt, and have been since antiquity. What do our Politicians know about what We the people want? How does someone who has majored in Political science know anything about economics, infrastructure, or energy? The problems that we face every day?
We need a new type of government where the people have more power. I want to vote where my tax money goes, I don't want them building secret underground facilities.

Our government should have many different agencies that each focus on a different problem. Like an infrastructural agency where there is one head in charge (who is voted in) for a 4 year term. Below him are engineers, and below them are construction workers. This would also work with agriculture, education, energy, foreign Affairs. But we would not just have one agency, we would have 6 different groups of these agencies(for each general region of the country. North East, Mid Atlantic, Southwest, South East, North West, and Mid West). They would meet 4 times a year in D.C to discus what they were doing to improve there region, why they spent the money they did, and how this will better our lives/the planet. Although we would still need a official leader, he wouldn't have the power he does today.

I changed the title

This republic no longer works, we need more democracy.

How would anyone know what a republic looks like?

This nation has been nothing but mob rule since most of us were ever born. The problem is politicians and their lifetime choice of screwing people over for their own selfish needs to play god for the little people of this country.

A constitutional republic means equal representation where minority rights are protected, and a vital part of that model is what I and many other citizens have never seen,a statesman.

We do not need more mob rule.

this was on topic til someone rewrote the title and op.

I could not agree more. This is from a recent thread of mine.

Capitalist democracy is a farce. US congress has an all time low approval rating because all they do is argue with each other. They are more interested in petty political millage than actually addressing the ever pressing issues that face the United States. It is the same all across the West. Its duopoly politics. The major parties job is to distract the masses with non-issue partisan distraction while they pass legislation the elites want passed behind our backs. The duopoly media quaterbacks this charade. We do not have democracy. Our votes mean nothing. It is all pretend. It is also set up so that a minor party that wins the primary vote cannot form government. Western Democracy is designed in a way that makes it virtually impossible for a new party to emerge and sweep to power. Capitalist democracy ensures the power of the duopoly regime.

Edit- This is a different idea than the one I was shooting around but I like it. Nothing gets done in politics now days. They have so many excuses.

Your absolutely right, Americans barely have a clue the type of government they really have.

Democracy a true one is mob rule, and thats not good either, you would have the majority dictating things to the minority, the whole reason we have the type of government we do is to ensure everyone's voice is heard.

We just need to make sure we stick to our core values and get rid of all the government excess, some how I feel they want all the agitation and anger with the government, it plays into their plans.

Have things gotten so bad we have idiots asking for Mob rule and Dictators?

Agreed...

The Republic has been highjacked by the vermin that have infested Washington. It has been perverted from what it once was and should be. It's not what the founding Fathers fought so hard to free us from.

Return the Republic to it's original form and let it work as intended then we shall see the US regain the Moral high ground..

In the meantime We The People have been smothering under They the corrupt fat cats.

End the FED.

That's a good start IMO.

I said more democracy not full on mob rule, that wouldn't work. What I mean is our politicians are more like mini dictators. Refusing to work with some one because you don't share the same beliefs is crazy. If I did that I'd be fired.

You got it backward the republic no longer works because it is been replaced with the bastard called democracy/mob rules!

In the republic we had unalienable rights that were held inviolate, in a democracy all rights are subject to a vote hence our rights have been slowly voted away and you want more of this? The bill of rights was written to illustrate that certain rights were not subject to vote/mob rules.

We have democracy now that is why we have all these problems. Well actually now it is oligarchy disguised as democracy but same difference they people believe they have a say and keep voting for the same tyrants to oppress us further...

People don't like true freedom because that means they have to be held accountable for their own actions. People like the safety net that no matter what you do there is always a hand to pick them back up. People want to be ruled over and told what to do. With that comes corruption.

There are 2 ways this goes right now. We either go back to our founders and have true freedom or we end up down the same road nazi germany went. That's it. Until the day humanity as whole grows the hell up and understands that they don't need Government or a King to dictate to them how to live their own lives, this is the endless circle we go through.

Yes, when half the pop doesn't even vote...

People need to wake up and get off their asses and use the system we already have in place to fix things.

How quickly would our world change if instead of voting on American Idol people voted for their Representatives like they are supposed to.

Voting is a right, and like most rights if you don't use them your likely to lose them, thats all we have seen in the US, apathy.

You need look no further than the Republican process this year alone to see that voting doesn't work. Voter fraud in almost every state handing it to Romney. I have no faith in the system the way it is anymore because the people running it are corrupt.

Thanks for expressing that so succinctly. That's a lot of truth to attempt to sum up in a couple sentences.

It doesn't matter what kind of government is in place. Once the human element of greed and corruption set in, it's no longer a republic, democracy, socialist, and so on and on. The republic is the best because of the checks and balances that the Constitution puts in place. We should be holding those put in office accountable and companies and financial institutions attempting to poison our government should be brought in on charges of treason.

Hell no. NO MOB RULE!

That's what a pure democracy is, nothing more than mob rule.

I want to live in a system where I have rights, and my rights are protected, and people aren't constantly infringing upon them or trying to erode them because they interfere with their interests, and I have real representation in my government whatever they may be.

No where in the Constitution does it say anything about America being a Democracy. Democracy is what causes corruption because Somehow ... the people with the minority train of thought seem to think they are the majority. And by this, I mean the liberal train of thought (minority) thinks they are the majority.

Return the Republic (rule of law) to the people!

So basically you want a safety net and not true freedom. That's fine, have your King or whatever else you want to worship as God sitting on a throne telling you how to live. Leave me and the other people that want to be free alone to be free. Don't make us pay rent on land we own nowhere near a city to pay for the rest of society or constant war. You want a Kingdom? You want your stupid political games and corrupt greedy politians? Fine. Don't force it on the rest of us.

The United States of America is or a least was a Constitutional Republic. The Federal Government was only allowed what powers were given to it by the US Constitution. According to the 10th Amendment - The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. In short if the Federal Government wanted more authority it has to ask the States or the people for said authority, which it has never done. So anything the government has done that violates this Amendment is there by Unconstitutional and can not be enforced, this is Nullification.

Another thing that has weakened our Republic is when we allowed the people to elect the US Senators instead of the State Legislatures. In the early days of the Republic the State Houses elected the US Senators, there by giving the States power over the Federal Government. The US Senators were only allowed to do what the State Legislatures allow them to. If they went against the State Legislature they would quickly be recalled and replaced.

The State Legislatures elected Senators until 1913 when the 17th Amendment was enacted direct elections of US Senators by popular vote. Since this time the states have had less influence over the Federal Government and its power has expanded far beyond what the framers of the Constitution intended.

Its a lot easier to buy off one Senator than an entire State Legislature (well most of the time).

And if you really want to understand what the Framers intend read not only The US Constitution, but also the Federalist Papers which I consider the owners manual for our Republic.

Well, in a true democracy if 51 percent of the people vote for something they can destroy the rights of the other 49 percent and can even have them thrown into prison or eliminated. I don't want that unless I'm of the fifty one percent. Sooner or later there would only be two left because there cannot be a majority of two. In the end there shall be one.

Keep believing we're a Republic if that gives you comfort.

I prefer to acknowledge what is really going on.
