Liberal, democrat, conservative, republican, yada yada yada. What does it mean exactly?

It is opinion that labeling your self and somebody else as such is self-limiting, and destroys relevant, free and original thought. Labeling yourself as such, causes you to "grow" in one direction, and stops you from branching out so that you may bloom and thrive.

I am not satisfied with a Two Party system. I get the idea that one would theoretically keep the other in balance and offer differing perspectives, but even with the occasional interaction of a third party, the choices we have are no longer relevant in the complex world, dynamic, and globally-connected world we live in today. Even if you were to add Socialists, Anarchists, or anything else into the mix, the mix is still full of politicians that define themselves by one word, or very few words.

Look at the America we live in today. Take the recent Debt Ceiling debates. Our politicians are not voting for themselves anymore. They do not do what they personally think is the right move. They do what the Party demands of them. Republicans are opposing Obama and the Democrats not because they disagree, but simply because they are Republicans. The chose to be Republicans, and in today's America, that means doing the opposite of the Democrats. Same goes with the Democrats. Both parties operate in complete opposition to the other side. It is no longer about what one person thinks, it is about group-think. It is about getting your political party into power, regardless of the philosophies or personally opinions of the individuals that comprise it.

It is like we are a schizophrenic nation.

It is my opinion that we live in such a complex world, that these political ideologies are not only outdated, but divisive and simplistic. This too goes for anything that you name. Take art for example. There used to be clear differences between Rock and Jazz and Rap, and now we have bands than fuse all musical genres together, and who are, in essence, undefinable to the extent that they have many definitions. Now we even have Post-Rock, with Rock still thriving.

It is my opinion that anyone who defines themselves with a word, be it Hippy, Conservative, Artist, Scientist, or whatever, is missing the point. What is a scientist if he cannot see art in nature? What is an artist if he cannot see the science behind his work? Is a landscaper not an artist too? What is a mathematician if he is ignorant of the religious implications of his work? You can't be one thing all the time. Life is too complex and too demanding. You have to be flexible. You have to mold yourself to the situation.

Bruce Lee once said, "Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."

I am a situationist, and I believe that there is no ideology or "ism" that can solve any problem every time, and in a time where the entire Globe is connected, with people on the one side of the earth influencing those on the other, with different modes of thought blending into the minds of other modes of thought, there is no longer any use for those all encompassing words.

Good day, ATS..

Let's first introduce the evidence for today's point:

Exhibit A: Let's just say it: Republicans are the REAL problem

Exhibit B: Let's just say it: Democrats are the REAL problem

Now, where does that leave us?

Our country is destined to fail with these types of attitudes and blind following of partisanship. There is no UNITY in blaming one and other for the problems.

We will never get anywhere unless we learn to work together...middle of the road...hand in hand.

Do I really need to say anymore?

I'm a registered Republican, yet I've never voted for a Republican President. I voted Clinton in 1996, and 3rd party all other times. I even voted for Ken Salazar in Colorado, because I thought Pete Coors was a corporate hack. I support gay marriage, legalized marijuana, and to some extent Unions. However, I don't believe that people should have their paychecks robbed every payday to fund single mothers with 12 kids from 6+ different fathers. I believe the 2nd Amendment is the ONLY Amendment that provides protection for all the other ones. I believe that the 1st Amendment doesn't mean that one group can stifle what you say, simply because they are offended by it. I believe that police should not be able to enter your home (physically, digitally, etc.) without a warrant and due process. I believe that a nation is defined by it's language, culture and borders, and that the U.S. can't possibly take on all the people of the world simply out of pity. I believe that ALL people in the U.S. should have EQUAL opportunity. I don't believe in "hate crimes", but rather punishment based on the crime itself...not the motive. A dead person is a dead person, no matter "why" they are dead. Murder IS hate, and should be punished equally.

Why am I a Republican? Because I believe in the INDIVIDUAL and the individual right and responsibility for one to take care of themselves. A global government is something I believe will lead to slavery. I have also seen the body count in Communist countries by their government, all in the name of "the community". No thanks. However, I do not believe in "party over person". I will, and have voted Democrat, 3rd party, etc. I will NOT vote for Romney or Obama.

Well that I can agree with, but don't you think those in power who call themselves Republicans or Democrats have a limited understanding of the word Individual in terms of todays globally connected society?

The ruling Republicans and Democrats really are quite similar. Both are shooting for a one-world-government. One wants it controlled by corporations, the other wants it controlled by bureaucrats. Both end in slavery for you and me.

Think about it, a Ron Paul government is a peoples government.
