Here are the 13 most beautiful impact craters of Africa (of a total of 21 confirmed), taken from Google Earth, and ranked in decreasing size.
I've put for each of them their principal characteristics, such as diameter, estimated age, target rock and bolide type when known.
Ages in millions of years (Ma) before present.
Diameter in Kilometers.
Abbreviations: C - Crystalline Target; C-Ms - Metasedimentary Target; M - Mixed Target (i.e.sedimentary strata overlying crystalline basement); S - sedimentary target

Enjoy!

Don't get too worried, seems like most of the craters are millions of years old. Besides if an asteroid came at us now Bruce Willis would fly into space and jack it up before it could make a new crater.

I used to live in the Vredeford dome. Not in the town of Vredeford, but in Parys. At the time, I did not even know that I was in the crater!

This thread is really nice, with a lot of work and research put into it. Why just three stars and only one flag until I found it? Some very good threads get lost by either not being on the "New Topic" page (only eight topics are listed at a time! There is room for at least 20).

Again, a nice thread, thanks for organizing it.
