Mind you, this is from 1986-87.

Hands down, with out a shadow of a doubt the greatest MC to ever grip the mic.

I bring to you the Game Changer, The R, The Microphone Fiend, the God MC, the one and only....

RAKIM

PS. His DJ Eric B wasnt too shabby either.

I eat, sleep and breathe Hip Hop! Rakim is definitely one of the best MCs to ever pick up the mic during the golden age of Hip Hop and I see him as an influential artist that has paved the way for so many of the top tier MCs today (i.e. Nas, J-Live, Ghostface Killah, Eminem, Jay-Z, etc.).

However, it's been nearly two decades since he released his classic albums with Eric B. (the 7th Seal was a disappointment, and it didn't live up to his previous albums) and rap has evolved, with more complex writing techniques. Rakim will definitely be a pioneer (along with Big Daddy Kane & Kool G Rap) of lyrical rap and has a place in my book as one of the greatest to ever do it.

My Top 5 MCs at the moment are Gift of Gab, MF DOOM, Nas, Pharoahe Monch and Elzhi.
