US Army lays off national heroes

A Pentagon official signaled on Wednesday that the Army could lay off as many as 24,000 enlisted personnel and up to 5,000 officers within five years to meet a projected reduction in the force driven by budget cuts and the winding down of two wars.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., pointed out that many of the service members who might get laid off had done multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

How long can you go?...

You send your bravest and youngest into Iraq..
you destroy the country.
you destroy the people of this country
you destroy world relations
you destroy the economy
you stir up a hornets nest of violence..

.... and then, when the bravest and best return home having done your evil bidding...

You lay them off..... veterans of multiple tours who rely on a US Army paycheque to pay mortgages and feed their families.. is now joining the bread line and asking for food stamps with every other homeless person in America. They are going to be pissed off, on meds, having flash backs and suffering post traumatic stress...
There’s going to be guns around.. violence happening.. theyre going to bring the worst parts of the Baghdad alleys into American society..

Sign of the times. Like most workers they are expendable at the whim of some bean counter higher up the food chain. Plain and simple fact of life.

Trying to play the "Heroes" card is a bit lame too. What exactly makes them heroes when in fact they are nothing more than government / corporate enforcers? It's time the whole sickly "Heroes" thing was stopped and put into a little perspective, or maybe people would like to see more wars just so they can remain employed and just die fighting for nothing of benefit to mankind?

America continues to make Military cuts while China continues to increase Military spending.

Nothing looks good as far as the future of the United States is concerned.

I really have a problem with you calling these men heroes. Haven't you seen the news lately?
US soldiers burning Qurans
US soldiers urinating on fallen men
US soldiers posing with dead bodies and limbs
US soldiers shooting dead families in Panjwai

And thats just in the last few months, imagine what they did in the entire 10 year war?

This is the reality of war.

We shouldn't have sent those folks there over and over.

It should be common knowledge by now that the U.S military does not care about the people serving for it.

By the way, you save a life or several lives, you're a hero. You go off to war and do your "job"? You're a soldier.

Soldiers save lives as well as take them.
These are heroes regardless......
The bad # that happens is because they get driven mad doing the wrong things for the right reasons which the military excells at.

I do agree for the most part although some troops may get a chance to do some heroic acts i.e. like risk their life to save a team member against all odds.
I don't think this video has been posted on ATS yet of US Troops on a drunken night of the coast of Australia. I seen it posted on Liveleak.com and thought it funny at first but really it was very disturbing.
You cannot tar everyone with the same brush as even within this group you can see the different personalities. Good luck meeting some of these guys in a USA bar if they don't have work.

Ok that really was disturbing, and not to brag here but in the Aussie army they consider everyone their mates and will fight to protect them.
Now this may just be an isolated event, but considering the problems American soldiers have caused where ever they are deployed, it seems that the American army is divided and weak.

Most of the officers are reservists and a good number of the enlisted are also. Factor in those eligible to retire, due to service length or medically and such. Their will be a long line waiting for a RIF.
This has happened many, many times before. Alot of these will be hired into law enforcement, just watch. We aren't going to have the "military" stomping on our faces, they will just change the uniforms and call them "police".

Join the devil, die by the devil, and forget about pension, as dealing with the devil, gets you what you all deserve and consider yourselves lucky, that you all are not rounded up for your crimes you committed around the globe, as all of you should be a shame, for supporting a criminal empire's agenda and just punishment, should be more, than just taken away your job and pensions, as sure we can all come up with more fitting retribution....

Personally think anyone who served in any tour that induced atrocities, should be hung, as there is free will and you chose to take the $$$ over righteousness and your involvement, be it medical, evangelical, or logistics or any other positions, still makes you accountable in part, for crimes carried out and if was going to be a mass genocide, would say start with the suckers who got paid to play and kill and destroy others...

So the military should get 75% to 100% of the budget instead of 50%? I image the cut is about 1%.
