Obama EO Outlaws Reporting on Syrian Rebels/Terrorists

Effective April 23, 12:01 AM EST

Isn't this taking it a bit too far? Another wacked out EO of "National Emergency"

Apparently, reporting on the rebels' terrorist activity is helping terrorists? so free press is suspended on that topic

Gotta love 0bama, huh?

President Obama issues a constitution trampling executive order declaring Syria a national emergency and outlaws reporting on terrorist rebel activities.

In perhaps the most unconstitutional power grab by the Obama administration to date the constitutional rights of Freedom of Press and Freedom of speech have now been suspended under the false premise that the “human rights violations” in Syria and Iran constitute as “national emergency”.

If only the US would butt it's nose out of people's business, the world wouldn't be so fkd up. Last I checked Syria was not even in the US or considered a state in the US. Now, Hawaii I can understand.

Not a fan of BarryO myself but who has been banned from reporting on what?
By reporting this, have you broken some law somewhere?
I just don't quite understand this as I can speak of anything I want as I am a free man.
Is there a link?

Hmmm now what if Bush had an EO banning reporting in Iraq and Afghanistan?

How many people would be sitting there and just go along with that?

Not to many but hey its Obama nothing to see here.

I'm not too sure why it matters? It isn't like the media is going to tell us anything truthful about what is happening over there. I'm just surprised they're not saying these are "freedom fighters" like in Libya, but terrorists.

sooner or later we will have to stop hopping around the world to put out fires.Un and NATO will need to find another way to keep their programs operating.I do see the day coming when we will no longer support most of their combat ops.

An executive order is not law. How would Obama even enforce this? Seems to me as if Obama doesn't want people knowing that these "rebels" are really thugs bought and paid for by TPTB in an attempt to overthrow Syria. He must be afraid that people will realize that these rebels are nothing more than murderous Islamists who continue to stage attacks in Syria to make the Syrian regime appear as the oppressor.

Hold on. I gotta call you on this. First let me say that it is butting in where we have no business, and history will probably show that we were playing both sides against the middle in Syria, as usual.

But that's not what this EO says. Your link is broken, but I can only assume that it's some right-wing and/or ultra-religious site doing some s#%^-disturbing and fearmongering. Here's the main section of EO 13606 (assuming that's what you're referring to):

(a) All property and interests in property that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of any United States person, including any foreign branch, of the following persons are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in:

(i) the persons listed in the Annex to this order; and

(ii) any person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with or at the recommendation of the Secretary of State:

(A) to have operated, or to have directed the operation of, information and communications technology that facilitates computer or network disruption, monitoring, or tracking that could assist in or enable serious human rights abuses by or on behalf of the Government of Iran or the Government of Syria;

(B) to have sold, leased, or otherwise provided, directly or indirectly, goods, services, or technology to Iran or Syria likely to be used to facilitate computer or network disruption, monitoring, or tracking that could assist in or enable serious human rights abuses by or on behalf of the Government of Iran or the Government of Syria;

(C) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services to or in support of, the activities described in subsections (a)(ii)(A) and (B) of this section or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order; or

(D) to be owned or controlled by, or to have acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just more hypocritical BS--especially since all of those very same pieces are being constructed right here in the US, to be used against our own citizens....

Fairly certain this is the same legislation here: I guess different media with different spins...

President Obama's policy announcement comes as he speaks Monday at the
U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In an unprecedented move, Obama's executive order targets Foreign Nations
"need to adapt American national security policy in a world being remade
rapidly by technology",
according to administration officials.

Is this just more "intervention" and New Middle East Shaping?

The order is designed to target companies and individuals connected with
Iran and Syria, however future executive orders could name
others aiding other countries through technology in crackdowns on dissent.

Much of this tracked, surveilled and monitered technology is already familiar to those
citizens within The United States, consider NSA Whistleblower account about tracked emails, The NDAA and the National Embarrasment that is the TSA and Airport Security

President Obama will issue an executive order Monday that will allow U.S. officials for the
first time to impose sanctions against foreign nationals found to have used new technologies,
from cellphone tracking to Internet monitoring, to help carry out grave human rights abuses.

Social media and cellphone technology have been widely credited with helping democracy
advocates organize against autocratic governments and better expose rights violations,
most notably over the past year and a half in the Middle East and North Africa.

But authoritarian governments, particularly in Syria and Iran, have shown that their security
services can also harness technology to help crack down on dissent — by conducting
surveillance, blocking access to the Internet or tracking the movements of opposition figures.
Washington Post

www.ushmm.org...

However, Social Media has also been implicated as An Army Of Fake Social Media To
Promote Propaganda

In addition, consider that President Obama:

On December 31, 2011 he signed the National Defense Authorization Act with sections 1021 and 1022, military arrests and indefinite detention without due process of the law.

On March 8, 2012 he signed Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011, the no-Trespass Bill, paving the way for the military arrests and detention of any who might oppose his regime.

On March 16, 2012 he signed the Executive Order, National Defense Resources Preparedness, which was portrayed in the mainstream media as a reaffirmation of existing law. However that law was only to take effect in the event of a nuclear attack on the United States. Under Obama’s new version the law can be implemented in the case of an emergency. This could be any kind of emergency, even an economic one, or as the law now states, no emergency at all.

Obama was recently caught over an open mic telling a Russian Ambassador, “After my next
election I have more flexibility.”

....Obama, in addressing the Supreme Court in reference to his socialist heath care law, said that
the “unelected” justices should show restraint in the face of arguments for overturning the law.
fromthetrenchesworldreport.com...

In reality the truth is that Social Media provides the medium to fuel firestorms whose interest is
State and International sponsered propaganda, Shadow Government planed and executed
regime changes, and agendas that use Human Rights Abuse as a platform to gain support from
those inside and outside national borders, a means to an end of ever advancing tryanny.

Without this map shaping Social Media digital/internet manipulation, this would be just another
injustice to a sovereign nations Government, its Constitution, and even yes perhaps even yes
to Americas own citizens, and the trampling of The Constitution Of The United States.

Yeah, you're talking about the whatreallyhappened site.

No. It IS the same. If you will read the actual EO instead of some wacko's skewed interpretation of the EO, you'll see that it's written in pretty plain language. It's not even close to what the guy is claiming.

Read the thing itself: It's just a bunch of hypocritical "human rights" propaganda BS like they've been doing all along. But it's not what the guy claims.

Edit: Excuse me. You meant the PDF link. Yes. That's EO 13606. Read it. It has absolutely nothing to do with outlawing reporting by anyone....

Uh Oh..... This ain't good. Not only does this tell me that all hope I'd been harboring about Obama taking the warnings of the Russians seriously is silly and foolish..he's not and pushing ahead, damn the torpedoes, but this stifles a lot more.

Okay.... I'm just an average guy who runs a couple sites... I volunteer at one and spend entirely too much time on this and a couple others. In other words...I'm no scholar. I'm just well informed by the work put into that goal. With ALL THAT said.....I read Section one of the full text..then I went back and read it again, and a 3rd time.

I cannot say on my sites and the one I mod at, just where the line is now. Yeah..it's CLEAR about overt help to Syria or Iran and any agent of those two Governments. I get that part..and that is nothing new.

What IS new is the focus on communications and networking (Internet, Twitter, Blogs..etc etc) and the use of "indirect" and other vague wording in more than one place. I'd ASSUMING this wasn't written with Blogs and political Americans in mind...but again...it doesn't say it's NOT and it SHOULD. That isn't a comfy omission.

He's made this very specific in some areas..and I agree with it there. He's also made it so VAGUE in some areas, this can be applied beyond what I can see to define and that alone is enough to be concerned, in my opinion here.

I wonder how that is really going to work considering GE is in bed with the adminstration and has its ceo as jobs czar. and GE has a long history of doing business with Iran.
