Jon Huntsman: GOP Is Like Communist Party In China

Former Republican candidate Jon Huntsman took a battle axe to his own party, comparing it to China's Communist Party and criticizing its standard bearer in a wide-ranging interview at the 92nd Street Y Sunday night.

Recounting his first experience on the presidential debate stage in Iowa last August, Huntsman says he was struck by the question "Is this the best we could do?"

Huntsman, the former Utah governor and once President Barack Obama's Ambassador to China, expressed disappointment that the Republican Party disinvited him from a Florida fundraiser in March after he publicly called for a third party.

"This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script," he said.

He would know, being a former U.S. Ambassador to China.

Maybe the fact that he felt the pressure to retract it just goes to prove his point...

In a way he is correct. I was a proud Republican back in the 80s and early 90s, but once the party starting talking about punishing those that didn't vote in the same manner as the rest of the party after the Republicans took control of congress, I knew it was no longer the party I once loved. Been an independent since then.

It just shocked me that suddenly being a conservative no longer meant having traditional values, but to tow the party line. That our beliefs must match that of the parties to be accepted. The big tent party that accepted all Americans was dead.

Plus you have Grover Norquist running around and forcing everyone to sign pledges if they want the support of the party. LoL!

Huntsman is right!

He simply said what everyone knows, the two party system does not work, if it did we wouldn't be doing the same BS through two separate presidents of two separate parties.

Yes he would know a little about China. OBAMA appointed him to be an ambassador there. Why would an Obama appointee think he would have a chance at the Republican nomination? About as brilliant as a Anti-War, Pro-Drug Candidate thinking he would have a chance. (Ron Paul)

Republicans are "wrong-headed on policy matters".

Looks like the GOP is forcing out another one of their more-honest members - maybe Huntsman can join up with Paul and start a 3rd party ticket.

Maybe that's why Donald Trump is at least CONSIDERING him for Secretary of State.. to satisfy Democrats?
