2 Coast Guard members shot dead on Alaskan island

(CNN) -- Two Coast Guard members have been shot dead on an island off Alaska's coast, prompting the lockdown Thursday of their base and at least one nearby school.

The Coast Guard offered few immediate details Thursday afternoon as to how, when or why two of its own were killed. Capt. Jesse Moore did acknowledge, though, "It is possible the suspect remains at large."

Three dead in Ohio restaurant shooting

(CNN) -- An apparent domestic dispute left three people dead at a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant near Cleveland on Thursday, according to Ohio police.

The shootings took place after police received a 911 call from a woman at the restaurant in Brooklyn, Ohio, that "she had just informed her husband that she was leaving him and he wasn't taking it well," Police Chief Scott Mielke said.

The woman told police that her husband was in a car circling the eatery.

NH police chief killed days before retirement

(CNN) -- A police chief from southeastern New Hampshire who planned to retire in a few days has been shot to death while trying to execute a search warrant, authorities said Friday.

Chief Michael Maloney of the police department in Greenland, a town of about 3,500, was killed in a shooting that wounded four other officers on Thursday night at a home in the community, said Attorney General Michael Delaney.
"This is a tragedy for our community," he said. "Our law enforcement community is in mourning."

Two suspects, a man and a woman, were found dead in the home after a long stand off, Delaney said. Investigators believe the deaths came from either a "murder-suicide" or a "double suicide," he said.

So sad... Death in these manners puts so much negative energy and anger in the air.....

All anyone here is talking about is the NH incident. Being NH and all.

Being pretty much sick of every person commenting on it I finally said "so how's that drug war goin'?" It was a drug-related warrant.

I thought for sure I was about to get clocked on the chin seeing the fire in his eyes.

Pointless deaths.

That Coast Guard incident seems like more than just high weirdness. Maybe drug related or maybe homeland security?

Protest triggers rare mode for police

STOCKTON - Tuesday's anti-police brutality protest in downtown Stockton forced the city's Police Department to essentially declare a state of emergency and cost taxpayers $12,000 in police overtime wages.

For the first time in more than 15 years, police declared a "condition red" - meaning any call that wasn't an in-progress act of violence or life-threatening emergency went unanswered.

Stockton might just fire up again because this just happened

Suspect, 57, dies in police custody

He resisted officers, who struck him with batons after he refused verbal commands and physical force, police said.

At some point during the seven- to 10-minute car ride to the hospital, Cooke grew quiet, Smith said, but the prolonged silence didn't alarm the two officers taking him to the hospital.

Police identified the five officers involved in the incident as Jeremy Edens, Kevin Hess, Gabriel Guerrero, James Manor and Irshad Mohammed. Authorities did not disclose which two drove Cooke to the hospital, and all five have been placed on a standard three-day administrative leave.
