The footage is a live webcast from STS-115, a space shuttle Atlantis mission in Sep 2006.

There is a much longer piece available that documents the whole incident. You can hear the back and forth between the astronauts, mission control and the commentator. After about ten minutes of describing what they are seeing the astronauts move the cam on to the triangular looking formation. Soon after, the stream cuts to a mission briefing.

It would be nice to see that link and also to know exactly when the video is supposed to have been taken so its illumination and shuttle activity context can be determined.

Otherwise, it's not even 'space junk', it's 'mind junk'.

It could be the Naval Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS) satellite formation, which is a grouping of two or three satellites traveling together in formation. Most of the NOSS satellites are in groups of two, but there is still one set of three NOSS satellites launched in the 1990's that are still operating, and they travel in a triangular formation, much like as seen in the video.

The NOSS satellites orbit much higher than the ISS or space shuttle, so the would look like moving dots in the sky above them, just like satellites look when seen from earth.

Skywatchers and backyard astronomers know about these, and often refer to them as the "NOSS Triplets" or "NOSS Triad".

Here is a video of the "NOSS Triplets". I know this video mentions UFOs in the title (along with "NOSS"), but it seems to me that these look enough like the NOSS satellites to identify them as such:

I have found this 10 minute clip of the incident on YouTube.



The commentators line is that the "triangular" effect is created by reflections of the single object that's been the subject of interest.

Googling variations on a theme "STS-115" brings up a lot of discussion/analysis of this incident, including talk on ATS.
