I used to think ideas like this were racist, until i moved to a country that spoke a different language than i did.
I found natives to be unhelpful and unfriendly.
I of course said they were racist, but i had to learn the "lingo" for my kids sake. It was the best thing i could have done. Rather than doing what
most english speakers do, ie speaking english LOUDLY and Slowly as if that would make a difference. I learned a few phrases in spanish. Straight away
the locals became more friendly and helpful even though i sounded ridiculous, i got work and local food producers often brought me free fruit and veg,
simply by making the effort;
So i think the rule should be learn the local language whatever it is, its a common courtesy and you cant really blame people for getting exasperated
by dumbasses who dont know what you are trying to say!
