As you walk through the gates of Hell, you bare witness to countless abominations and atrocities. Ghosts, Demons and Shadow People taunting you at every turn. Awful odours filling your nostrils, unpleasant tastes forming in your mouth as you struggle to breath. The physical and mental strain beyond anything you could imagine in the physical world. Doubt and unease filling your mind as you ask yourself "Can I make it through?"

Finally you are there. Before you, on a broad throne, sits the Evil One. His mere appearance reeks of evil and fear. He cackles loudly at your approach, attempting to thwart your resolve and place greater doubt into your already stressed mind. The atmosphere is one of fear, hatred and madness; pure evil.

You have two choices:

1) Become consumed by feelings without such as hate and fear

This is what Satan wants. As soon as you show the first glimmer of these feelings, Satan and his minions will capitalise on your weaknesses and cause you to go insane. There is no escape from a perpetual existence of torment and suffering. All is lost.

2) Become consumed by feelings within such as love and compassion

Concentrate on love, peace and compassion. Show that you can empathise with the Devil and his situation. How will the Evil One respond?

Love and compassion is pure awareness and evil cannot exist in pure awareness.

i have a theory: if your soul goes to hell, on the throne sits the evil one. if your soul goes to heaven, on the throne sits the good one.
now the theory: the evil one and the good one are one and the same force, power, being, it is only the condition your soul is in, what makes the difference. if your soul went a bad way in life, it is conditioned to see this allmighty, omnipresent force as evil. and the other way round.

The evil one is the one that humans have crowned and throned. They worship the evil one. The evil one is the one that whispers in your ear as thought, it promises all sorts of things. Thought is listened to and believed in.
Only God does not speak. Silence and stillness. Love and compassion.
God only sees and knows, he is the space for all appearances to appear.

The human listens to the mind. The mind tells stories and the stories are believed.
Humans who do not believe the mind are outside of the mind, this is divinity.

The mind has been crowned God, but God is not the mind, the mind appears within God.

When you are trapped in the mind you are crazy!! Because you believe what the mind tells you and the mind can never make it's mind up, you will be confused forever. This is the human condition, have a look at the world around you, does it look sane?
If you step outside the mind and watch what it does you will not be so taken in by it's stupidity, it is laughable.
One is amused.
Two is confused.

The mind is really only one thought at a time. This is the experience of mind, how it is experienced. You are the hearer of thought, the seer of thought.
Just remember what ever is seen or heard has to be heard or seen by the 'seer'.
You are the seer and knower of all things that appear.

The silent place where this is heard and seen is outside of everything, including the mind.
You are the silence, the stillness on which it all appears. You are like the blank canvas prior to the paint.

You speak of ego, the illusionary aspect of the human mind - the unconscious mind. The mind outside of the ego is the true self bereft of ego - it is true consciousness (oneness). In some of your other posts above, you mention "evil one" and it's thoughts, and so on. That is all ego, deified by the human condition; even you deify it by saying it sits upon a throne. There is no evil one, there is no evil at all, because those things are illusions crafted by an even greater illusion that is the ego, like shadow puppets where the ego is the hand casting images that aren't really there. Take out the ego and it's darkness is gone, then only light remains - only love remains. When we connect to our mind in a state that's devoid of ego, we can create our reality without all the fear and negativity that the ego says we need to be aware of. "Evil" people are always psychopaths to some degree, because their ego is so inflated that there's barely room for good in that false mental state. But they too come from God, and are inherently good once sobered up by either death or an awakening, no matter how evil they seemed in this life. They'll still feel the pain they caused on others, but that's because we are compassionate and empathetic of each other.

So of course we have a mind, but it depends what mind you listen to: you're mind (consciousness) or your ego's mind (unconsciousness).

It is ego that wants to control the mind.
The mind does not need controlling. Can you control the clouds?

Just want to stress that the passage in the OP was intended to be more metaphorical than literal. I do not necessarily believe in religious concepts such as a literal Hell or the Devil. I was just using them as a means to illustrate my ideas.

Mind is just one thought appearing at a time, it appears in presence, presently. Can a thought be stopped? A thought arises and is seen, it is too late to be stopped, it has happened already. Ego might say 'i don't want that thought' but the ego is deluded. The ego 'wants' something else. The thought (ego) that 'wants what isn't' is a deciever - just like the devil is described.

The silent witness, the awareness of thoughts and all 'things', is oneness, in this one, all 'things' appear.
The sky does not care what clouds appear because the clouds are not permanent they are passing. The sky never passes and is never stained by any cloud.
Know what you are. Are you a cloud or are you the sky?
