At this late stage in the trial, I am going to deny the request for a plea bargain. I appreciate the effort,

I appreciate all the effort of everyone here.

But I would like to let the jury decide. I think both sides brought compelling arguments to the fore. Our jury has been made up of people that wanted to hear a logical argument in this matter.

So many threads have been made but this one has been one of the few that has focused on the specifics of the event.

Many have U2U'd me in eager anticipation of the verdict.

I'd hate to deny others reading this that oppourtunity.

My final ruling then is this.

The jury is now sequestered and will reach a verdct in this matter of ATS vs ZIMMERMAN.

*bangs carrot-shaped gavel*

I would like to ask the prosecution for a plea bargain.

Your Honor I will keep this short. I agree with my Defense team, and if the Prosecution is fine with it then we can work out a plea bargain for Mr Zimmerman. I believe we done all we can, but the prosecution has nothing on Mr Zimmerman linking him to murder, but we can do Involuntary manslaughter with a minimal sentence.

I appreciate the information. And I think that this would provide information for jury deliberation. But since this is also a "particiption" exercise, I'd like to end this with a jury verdict all the same.

I do appreciate your input and work that you have conducted in this thread, however, to conclude this properly, your request is denied and I will leaveit to the jury.

The jury is currently debating. The Foreman will notify me U2U as soon as they've reached a verdict.

I move that we go with a hung jury and let reality take over.

This is the intrawebs after all and one day is like a month.

To be truthful, I wish it would have lasted longer.

Cool.

Technically it was a hung jury so the case would be dropped or eventually retried. But at least there was a closure to the thread.

Now I would like to see what the jury members argued amongst themselves.

That always comes out in the media after trial.

They'll all write books.

So the majority (ala SCOUTUS) voted for not guilty.

A regular jury, it would have been hung,

I want to extend an honest and sincere thanks for all that participatd.

A decision reached using logic, facts, and an interpretation of the truth.

*applause!*

Well, as a juror, I would have liked to have:
A) been able to at least try to get most of us together in a private chat, even if for 15 minutes to a half hour.
B) Had the charges been made clear from the get go.

This really was a great idea! I would volunteer for this again.

VERDICT...5 jury members voted not guilty
4 jury members voted guilty
1 jury member never voted

In the Case of ATS vs ZIMMERMAN, I find the defendant NOT GUILTY. Though with the votes, I see the possibility for a re-trial.

That would've been a good idea also

Since this was a trial (pun) run, I think all ideas to improve upon it are good.

Maybe the defense and prosecution could run up 6 jurors each next time.

Thanks Beezzer, Mamabeth, and others for putting this together. It was very interesting.

As a juror, I will admit (I guess its ok to say this now, right?) that I voted "not guilty." I came to the trial with an open mind and no "axe to grind;" that is, I did not have strong opinions or a preference for either side. The reason I voted the way I did was that I did not think motive and intent were proven sufficiently for conviction. I think what Zimmerman did was wrong, but based on the 4-pronged means-motive-intent-opportunity thing, I simply don't think motive and intent were established firmly enough. So I voted "not guilty" with the knowledge that this is not tue same as "innocent."

I am a gun owner and licensed to carry a concealed handgun.
I voted guilty because...
1.The 911 operator told him not to follow the kid.
2.He was suppose to let the police do their job,not
try and do it for them.
3.His homeowners association did not want him patroling
the neighborhood with a gun.
4.Your license to carry doesn't give you a license to act
like a cop wannabe.
5.Your license doesn't allow you to run after another with
the intention to shoot.
6.When someone is trying to get away from you,they are no
longer considered a threat.
His duty was to report to the authorities and let them handle the situation.
He took matters into his hands and didn't back off when told to.I think
he is guilty of manslaughter.Last but not least,this case is giving
fuel to those who are trying to take our guns away from us.He acted
poorly and made bad decisions that could effect many across the U.S.
