I guess we evaluate the "Truthiness" of things by our Knowledge about them.
The Anti Vaccine movement is a good example here.
On the one side you have millions of scientists shaking their heads, but keeping mostly quite. And on the other side you have a few but very vocal
scamartists and the ones that believe them.
So the truthiness is on the scammers side. Since they are the ones that are
1. against mainstream opinion
2. Offer a simple solution to a complex problem
3. are louder and dont need to present facts, they just make up another lie to cover the last one.
A normal person would then of course think that there really is something to it.
This example you can of course exchange with whatever you like. but the mind does not know something for a fact it gets information and keeps the ones
that sound nice and cozy to the individual.
