A undercover reporter working for The Sun newspaper has smuggled in materials to make a fake bomb into the House of Commons this comes just after hunt protesters forced their way in, The materials smuggled in consisted of batteries, wire, a timer and plasticine.

BBC NEWS

Mr Hain said the Sun's stunt had confirmed all his worst fears about security in the Commons.

He said: "Frankly, the Sun has done the House a favour by exposing the amateurish and old-fashioned culture which threatened the very cockpit of our democracy.

"It's not just government ministers at risk but the 14,000 other people who work in the Palace of Westminster who are at risk in this modern age of suicide bombers.

5 Protestors Break Into House of Commons

This is quite amazing considering the House of Commons security was immediately tightened up. However, the House of Commons has always been proud of the fact of being accessible to the public, so that is not the issue. What is the issue is do we British want to carry on with an open Government, making the Sun story a 'non-story'. M.P's have stated that they want the House of Commons to be open and accessible reflecting British society.

It just goes to show that nothing is foolproof esp. security. If the House of Commons is easy to get into how about airports? All the delays, all the alerts, all the inspections have made us FEEL safer, but the reality is quite opposite IMHO.

Uh oh... the U.K. has been banning things left and right for years (the most recent being hunting?)... since the extreme liberals there have all but taken over, is the U.K. about to transform into a police state?

Things that have been banned such as you mention, have only been things that the VAST majority of citezens want

You should bear that in minf.
