Caster Oil Cookies (70) years old

This recipie is over 70 years old ..2 of these cookies equals a dose of caster oil..
I have tasted these cookies over the years my grandma use to make them and surprise they were very good !
1 cup sugar
one half teaspoon salt
1tsp baking soda
1tsp ginger
1 cup molasses
1 half cup caster oil
1 cup flour
mix all the above together..roll out and cut ..bake 350 10 mins

I have no idea but i rember eating them i was allowed 1 cookie..My grandma use to make them for my grandpa they were good ..I came across the recipie in her old recipie box that was given to me after she died its full of strange recipies.peace,sugarcookie1

Might be an old depression time recipe...when caster oil might have been more prominent in the home than corn or vegetable oil...just a guess!

Interesting just the same!

You just might be right!! I do know if you ate to many you were sitting in the bathroom for awhile but back then i think caster oil was a cure all for everything..sugarcookie1

castor oil is great stuff. works really well topically to soothe cramps and joint aches also. looks like a great recipe!

Interesting however, that one of the most deadly toxins, ricin, comes from the same plant as the oil. Funny how humans can turn something deadly into a food

The title was a bit misleading ..there is allot of deadly food out there we eat look at the puffer fish if not fixed right it could kill a person..thanks for posting..peace,sugarcookie1

Castor oil cookies?
I remember taking that wretched stuff
when I was a kid. Wish my mom would have
had that cookie recipe. Dont sound as good
as a SUGARCOOKIES!!!
Thanks for the recipe.I think I'll bake a couple dozen,
triple the castor oil and take it to work for my fellow
co-workers and watch the parade to the rest rooms!!!!!!
