Romney May Have Paid Zero Taxes In 2009

Originally from:
David Shuster urges Mitt Romney to follow his father’s lead by releasing more tax returns

(video clip available HERE, including a transcript of the interview)

David Shuster grills Romney on his tax returns, his analysis indicates Romney may well have paid ZERO in taxes for 2009, and possibly 2008.

SHUSTER: Actually, Governor, if you think a limited release is going to put this issue behind you, you're politically tone-deaf. First, your 2010 return indicates you paid a rate of 13.9 percent. Furthermore, it suggests you paid far lower than that in 2009. You see, the 2010 return reveals you carried over $4.9 million dollars in losses from the previous year. That means you paid no taxes on capital gains in 2009, including no taxes on your carried interest.

So how much did you pay in 2009? Zero? How close to zero was it, Governor? Or how about the 2008 year, where the investment market first crashed?

This puts Romney in the same league as GE, Boeing, DuPont, Mobil-Exxon, and 30 other corporations that paid no taxes in 2008-2010 (and some of those have even gone into a negative tax rate).

Wouldn't be surprised to hear that. That look on his face when they ask him about taxes says it all. I can't believe people take him seriously.

He probably cooked the books so it "showed" him paying 15 percent taxes. The dude probably gets a free ride and complains about the middle class not paying enough.

Congress writes the tax code.

That sums it all up, correct?

Yeah, but he followed the tax laws that he wrote. At least he followed something!

State taxes what? That article has nothing to do with Romney not paying state taxes.

Think of all those jobs he created by destroying jobs.

It would make sense for America to elect a real life corporate raider who specialized
in destroying the jobs that are supposed to keep us independent and off the government
teet. It is miraculous that Mitt Romney became fabulously wealthy putting people onto
the rolls of the Welfare system and bolstering companies that shift production to South
East Asia. The race for the bottom; and Romney is an expert, a Jedi corporatist.

And he did it all while extracting the wealth of Americans and siphoning it off to Cayman Islands offshore corps or Swiss bank accounts, everything you could hope for in a Republican candidate, right?

I think he is the core embodiment of the Republican ideas I interact with here.
Who cares about results or intent when you have catch phrases?

If it is true that Romney paid zero taxes 2009 I cannot see how anybody would vote for him. The man tries to act like he is middle class but I do not think he even knows the definition. He wasn't born with a silver spoon it was gold diamond encrusted.

It depends on what kind of point you are trying to make. Many people already know companies get away with murder but I believe in scrutinizing those who are running for president.
