I doubt It's some sort of attack but yeah, I'm getting the same thing as you. It seems to happen every now and then so I'm confident It's nothing to worry about. I'm sure thing's will be back to normal again very soon.

I've been seeing it myself...

As well... I'm on a T1 line, and I'm timing out among other errors.

Speedtest and all the other usual sites I visit are normal...

I'm sure SkepticOverlord will update when he can analyze the issue.

SkepticSignal has been activated...

Temporary issue, still troubleshooting the cause. For now, only logged-in members can get to the forum areas.

I just encountered the same thing about 5 minutes ago..also running slow.

Not saying this is the issue, but the error code is something often seen in overloaded servers or DDoS attacks..

Source

Regarding the downtime, much of the time we either got no response at all from their web server(s) or it responded with an HTTP error 503 (service unavailable), which could indicate an overloaded server. On occasion the connection also timed out (we will count a site as down if we cannot load it within 30 seconds). All of these “symptoms” would be in line with what can happen during a DDoS attack.

It is a bad drive in their raid array, that the symptoms, slow down , then pop.
The drive goes offline. In saying that though Raid 5 should stay up, with some performance loss.

Who knows I'm sure their IT know what they are doing.

Just repeating this because it seems people are missing it.

It is just a site issue. The error page that showed up even said that it was not hackers and the site was not under attack

It also said that saying that will not stop people from speculating.

You cant stop a conspiracy on a conspiracy site

SÖ probably want to avoid panic .. its normal

a bad harddrive is the best excuse ahah
just kidding

Servers are probably rushing .. it is rush hours for ATS

Did anyone potentially consider that maintanance is being done on the system. Just because it is the internet does not mean it works 100% of the time all time.

I know it sounds crazy but sometimes the most logical and simplest answer is indeed the right answer.
