there doing this for divers what if the shtf and we need it.divers intrests are more inportant than national security?

This I don't understand at all ~ to turn something into a reef all you have to do is sink it and wait.

It is free. They say it is to maintain the ship but I think this means setting up the dive business itself around the ship. It does look like a great vessel to dive - it would make an awesome artificial reef. But it shouldn't cost all that to remove the fuel, some of the engine and others pollutants aboard and sink the ship.

It would bring tourism but this money sounds like crony cash funneled to THAT COMPANY among other people connected to the project. Probably they will appear to divvy up the proceeds (and this opening investiture has already wound up in pockets) but you can bet someone is going to be raking a handy little paycheck in the back door.

They can't get this ship donated? Or purchased and resold by a benefactor? Doesn't the public fund the military and so why pay again for this ship??? You might hit up the richest guy in town. (always a socialist lol)
If they must BUY the ship, those that directly benefit (the divers themselves) should pay the initial purchase price. Incorporated in diving fees...not the locals on a spec venture or people who have no idea what canned air is.

They have to buy the ship, clean it up so that it is ecologically sound and then pay to have it sunk where they want her to lay, then wait for the marine life to take over..

Failing that, I guess a war might provide some artificial reefs.. but I suspect that would be the more expensive route..

To keep it mothballed costs money too, they might as well have kept it in service.

Problem with the invincible class in my opinion is a lack in a decent air defence system..

While she was on Auriga 10 exercises I noticed she carried her own flight of Maritime Lynx to provide a similar defence network that our small ships have, I'm guessing that did not work out too well.

It is a shame she could not be retrofitted with the aster system...
