Curious though - whats black Friday shopping and why are people camping out?

Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving.
The Big Retailers offer Big Shopping Deals. People buy gifts for the upcoming Holidays (Christmas, etc).
The prices are often the lowest prices of the year.
A lot of things are sold out by the end of the day or weekend. That's why some camp out.
This year The retailers are opening at Midnight or Earlier in some places.

When a person can get a 46 inch Plasma TV for $199. Or a Laptop for $199 people will camp out.

It pretty fun to be honest. Even if a person has no money it's just fun to watch on TV as people nearly Riot. (as long as no one gets hurt. though sometimes it happens.)

We also have Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

And the name Black Friday derives from an accounting business term. If your business is in the "Red" means you have lost money. And prior to computer was written in red ink. But on this day, "Black Friday" there is so much buying that a business can acutally make up for the entire years losses. So that would put them in the Black. So we call it Black Friday.

Off topic: Spent a lot of time in Dunoon in the eight's. I absolutly love your country.

Black Friday is the equivalent of our January sales.

Thanks for the response. Dunoon is nice, but the next time you want to see the "real Scotland" (if you come back) might i suggest you have a camping holiday in Glen Nevis or visit The Cairngorms.

Back on topic, this Black Friday is similar in nature to our "January Sales", which ironically begin on December 26th.

Personally...i think lower prices prior to Christmas is a good idea...not after Christmas
