www.thepostgame.com...

A company in Colorado claims that by testing the ACTN 3 gene they can see if the child is lacking or has an abundance of fast twitch muscle fiber. Fast twitch fibers are used for more explosive movements and strength and less of them promotes more endurance.

At a charge of $160 per child, parents receive a specially designed DNA kit to collect a DNA swab. The swabs are sent back to the company before eventually ending up in an Australian lab. After a few weeks, the results are sent back.

What ever happened to just letting the kids have fun playing different sports and then letting them decide which one they like the best. I do think that studying genes does have a valid purpose in science but pretty soon our life will be without choices. All you will have to do is just test your dna and that will tell you what job to have what sport to play and probably who to marry and how many kids to have.

agreed, what a joke. so if you find out your kid isn't any good at sports your not going to let them play any if they want to?

what ever happened to doing it for enjoyment?

and then on the other foot, if your kid turns out he is going to be the next huge star, are you going to FORCE him to play sports even if they dont want to because its in his DNA?

this is just sickening to think about.

Anyone seen the movie Gattaca? The concept of the movie is that genetic engineering has allowed people to be born with the best possible DNA and genes. This brings on the concept of invalids, people born naturally and with inferior genetics. They are limited to custodial jobs and other menial tasks.

It has begun..
