The Northeast corridor is prepping for a nor'easter! Don't reload your page. This is not a mistake. A nor'easter is moving through this weekend that could dump as much as 8 inches of snow in the Northeast, including some in the big cities along the I-95 corridor. When it's over, this storm could be historic due to its early nature.

Cities throughout the Northeast are cranking into high gear to prepare for this early storm. New York City is loading up the salt spreaders and increasing staff this weekend to deal with the possible snow. It's the earliest snow alert in New York City in 40 years.

Winter storm alerts are posted form western Virginia to eastern Maine.

The first snowstorm of the winter season is beginning for the Northeastern United States over the weekend. Saturday will see snowfall from North Carolina’s Appalachians north to lower New England and Sunday will see snowfall across much of New England from Providence to Caribou. This is a very rare snowstorm in that it could produce not only among the top 10 earliest snow days in most Northeast cities but could also dump a record amount of snow for the month as well.

With winds along the coast whipping at 40+ mph to inland snows of over 12 inches the I-95 corridor better prepare for a wild weekend of snow, cold, wind, and rain. Expect downed trees and a lot of power outage across the area as the trees have yet to shed their leaves and this snow will be wet and heavy. If you live in “Hartford (CT), Frederick (MD), Worcester (MA), Nashua (NH), Netcong (NJ), Newburgh (NY), Scranton (PA), Winchester (VA), or Martinsburg (WV)” you will experience the worst of the snowfall.

Here are some forecasts provided by The Weather Channel for this weekend:

Is Northeast Snow in October a Rarity?

At least the temps look high enough that
it won't stay around long. This is the type
of snow that worries me in regards to
black ice. Hope they have a big salt
supply ready and everyone does alright.

DC/ Northern Virginia.- I doubt any severe weather will strike here. Maybe just some freezing rain but probably no snow. I will tell you in the morning.
