Windows update that won't install 10/18/2011
Have tried this many times and many ways, even to restore back to 10/12

I am not very technically knowledgeable, so if you can help me please make it as simple as possible. 3

this is the update that won't install

try to go to micorsoft's site and download .net framework update. It may tell you that you need to have something else installed first and that will tell you why the auto update keeps failing. Otherwise, don't worry too much about it. Other updates should still come in fine.

You can download the version you are looking for from HERE.

Not sure why you need that version. Just get the latest from HERE which is version 4 for SP3.

Let us know how it turns out.

Also, XP support will end soon so I highly recommend upgrading to Windows 7. It runs great.

networkdude and BIGPoJo,

Thank you for your suggestions. I will have to wait until later to try them out, but will get back to you after that. I will be trying to go to Windows 7 as soon as I am able.

Thank you network dude and BIGPoJo

I did follow both of your suggestions and did end up with help from Microsoft support. The update that wouldn't work was for WORD. The problem was that my WORD was corrupted. I have used it that way for some time because of another suggestion when I asked for help here before. Winword.exe /a

Thanks again,
Mahree
