WASHINGTON -- NASA will host a media teleconference at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, Sept. 9, to discuss the anticipated re-entry of the agency's decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS). Re-entry is expected late this month or early October.

UARS was launched Sept. 12, 1991, aboard space shuttle mission STS-48 and deployed on Sept. 15, 1991. It was the first multi-instrumented satellite to observe numerous chemical components of the atmosphere for better understanding of photochemistry. UARS data marked the beginning of many long-term records for key chemicals in the atmosphere. The satellite also provided key data on the amount of light that comes from the sun at ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. UARS ceased its productive scientific life in 2005.

Well I guess the teleconference will narrow down the potential sites for re-entry.
It should be worth a listen for those interested.

There are no streams scheduled at this time.

What do you expect they will say?
There isn't much they can (or will) do about the satellite re-entry.
I just explained this whole situation to a lot of my friends and family, they neither care nor feel threatened by the debris... so what can be said that will help the situation?

It's supposed to happen over then next couple of days and they have nothing scheduled.
My guess is they won't at all.

No, it happened on Sept. 9th... there are no current plans to continue because it's over already.
This is old news, we just didn't hear about it until now.

Carry on. Thread is old news a duplicate most likely. It can be removed.

Here is an update for so there is at least something relevant.

Update #8
Thu, 22 Sep 2011 01:44:51 PM UTC+0200

As of 7 a.m. EDT Sept. 22, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 115 mi by 120 mi (185 km by 195 km). Re-entry is expected sometime during the afternoon of Sept. 23, Eastern Daylight Time. The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 to 36 hours.
