Militants have reportedly kidnapped Iraqi Defense Minister, Hazem Shaalan's brother in law, demanding the end of all military actions in Najaf. The group, identifying themselves as The Divine Wrath Brigades released a video of Maj. Gen. Salah Hassan Lami.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Militants said Wednesday they had kidnapped the brother-in-law of Iraqi Defense Minister Hazem Shaalan and demanded he end all military operations in the holy city of Najaf, according to a video, Al-Jazeera television reported.

There was also reports of another person in the video but it is unclear as to whether he is related to the defense minister or his brother in law. The group is also requesting that Sheik Ali Smeisim, a top aide to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr be released.

Is it time for another beheading? You kidnapp a person either for monetary or political motives. It is clear the motive is political and it also demonstrates the radicals are losing.
I don't believe the interim government will give into there demands and the cleric will lose.

If the radicals were losing then the Holy Shrine would be under control. If the radials were losing there would be no need to maintain a 130,000+ presence. To say that the radicals are out numbered and desperate, yes. But when did they aver have any sort of military supremecy. It seems that they know the weak points of our negotiation and they are exploiting them to the max. Thats warfare.
