Can you please advise me if it is forbidden to copy and paste an article on here from Wikipedia? I have been giving a warning for doing so and i don't understand why. Ok if you are not supposed to do that then i understand. Please advise.

Many Thanks.

I don't think so, perhaps it was the subject matter, but I could be wrong.

I am very annoyed about this. The subject matter was about how the "Common Law" came about in the US i.e from the days of the 13 Colonies. It also stated how the Magna Carta was used as a guide for the constitution.

Hmm, surely there are numerous other sources to put a thread together. I do think Wikipedia is not as credible, because anyone can upload their perspective to it, which kind of dilutes much of the validity.
Dig in and gather articles and perspectives with the Googlemeister.

Peace

ETA: and what baddmove said

and you can't copy/paste the entire article or piece

Did you use the external quote tags and link the source?

Did you keep the "copy & paste" to 2 brief paragraphs?

If you stay within those parameters, then you should be fine. Also, it never hurts to contact the mods and ask why your post was deleted.

My understanding is that you are not supposed to post full articles. Do the highlights that are important and include a link to the full thing and I think you will be alright.

Thank you for you input. By what you have explained it appears i did not use the correct procedure.
I will make sure it is done correctly in future.

Thanks again.

No more than 3 paragraphs of external text can be quoted and you must include a link to the original source.

The idea behind that is to prevent people from just copying a page of text and posting it on ATS with no comments on why they think it's important.

Should this not be in Board Business & Answers?

Its not if it is properly cited from the original source. This place is ridiculous sometimes.
