Well, here is yet another (undersea) Volcano that has made the news today.

An undersea volcano located about 250 miles off the Oregon coast has erupted, according to a team of scientists from across the United States.

Volcanoes are notoriously difficult to forecast and much less is known about undersea volcanoes than those on land, so the ability to monitor Axial Seamount, and determine that it was on a path toward an impending eruption is pretty exciting,” said Chadwick, who was chief scientist on the recent expedition, which was jointly funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Science Foundation.

Here is another article with a bit more information.

An undersea volcano has erupted off the coast of Oregon, spewing forth a layer of lava more than 12 feet thick in some places, and opening up deep vents that belch forth a cloudy stew of hot water and microbes from deep inside the Earth.

The discovery came as a surprise, as researchers attempted to recover instruments they'd left behind to monitor the peak a year earlier. When the researchers hefted a seafaring robotic vehicle overboard to fetch the instruments, the feed from the onboard camera sent back images of an alien seafloor landscape. "At first we were really confused, and thought we were in the wrong place," said Bill Chadwick, a geologist with Oregon State University. "Finally we figured out we were in the right place but the whole seafloor had changed, and that's why we couldn't recognize anything. All of a sudden it hit us that, wow, there had been an eruption. So it was very exciting."

Eruption predicted The Axial Volcano rises 3,000 feet above the seafloor, the most active of a string of volcanoes along the Juan de Fuca Ridge, a plate boundary where the seafloor is slowly pulling apart.

Awesome video! I loved the first 25 seconds. I am not sure how serious this is, I imagine this kind of volcano forms all the time. Especially off the Pacific rim. But with everything else that is going on, people are going to have a field day with this one.

I was out on the west coast a while back, and always wondered what it would be like if a bunch of volcanoes became active and blew under the ocean. Hopefully we don't have to find out.

Some people put the date of the post in the header.

Maybe your post was the waste of space?

If you READ the article, you'll see it was just reported today.

Volcanic eruptions build, so its not "ALREADY erupted"

Piss off! I am so fed up with smart a$$ kids, and your comments.

Sorry Mods, had enough of this kind of posting for one day! Reached my limit.

You may be forgetting that up there they have the date layout of month/day/year, not day/month/year.
Strange and illogical I know, but like the English measurement system (Imperial), it somehow persists

That is awesome! That's really cool footage, but it's hard to get a sense of the size of the eruption. I'd imagine it can't be too big, as under water you would lose visibility quickly as you got further from the vent. Thanks for the video

I'd say it's about due again.

Just curious, where did you find the information that it was 12000 years ago?
