Prior knowledge and experience of military matters should be a prerequisite of the Defence Minister's role, as should the well being, interests and security of the British people - attributes sadly missing in most recent Defence Ministers.

Defence Ministers are the first to get our troops involved in American interests and security. They like it to keep the troops sharp-edged.

We shouldn't be in Afghanistan full stop. Anyone who joins the armed forces knows they are going to get dragged into some US conflict somewhere or other and when they are demobbed more than likely to end up living on the streets because they cant cope with "civy life".

Interesting that when the MOD asked for redundancies dennisbenson.net... it was over subscribed and its not just the squaddies. Only a desperate fool would join the army these days.

These two kids caught fighting for the insurgents should be dealt with by the Afghan authorities. They most probably have been sent to some CIA secret prison in Thailand to be waterboarded as I write.
