Just wondering if anyone knows what these are. Are they plane engines? If so, what are they sitting on top of and why?

Yup the dudes right they are missile pods.

A lot of equipment is bodged onto the backs of vans.....they reuse weapons that have been broken....these people have even made a tank from scrap...well the turret on the back of a van like this thing lol

That there is a jet pack built for speed.You tie a bungee cord around it and your body.That unit can leave the atmosphere with a 250 lb man.If you plan on leaving the atmosphere,wear a spacesuit and strap an additional 5 gallon gas tank to your body in case you run out.
