A few days ago while at home fitting a new kitchen i caught sight of a Police Officer making his way down the side of my house towards the back entrance.

Instantly there was a knock at the door. I could tell en route to answer it, it was the Police calling. As i opened the door ther were another three Officers stood on the door step.

Once i opened the door they quickly made there way inside the house, announcing they were looking for a person, ME !

Shocked as i was i offered myself as the person they were looking for. I was told there and then i was being arrested and was escorted out of my house into a waiting Police van, accompanied by the FOUR Officers.

I was driven to a nearby garage where a second large vehicle was waitiing, with a further two Officers. I was then de-canted from the first vehicle, searched and placed into a two foot square cell within the second vehicle.

After a forty minute wait i was driven to the local Magistrates Court where i was met by several gaurds, searched again then placed into a holding cell with two other people.

Roughly an hour later i was handcuffed to a gaurd and escorted through the building and into a Court room. I was placed behind a security barrier to protect the Magistrates and could see all the way around the room.

In attendance was my Gaurd, three Magistrates, clerk of the Court, two Solicitors and some general staff scattered around the room, ushers etc.

I then had my charges read out to me, like the criminal i am of course.

It appears that some five years ago, a car which i had loaned to my sister in law had accumalated three parking fines that remained unpaid, and as the car was registered in my name i had to answer for it to the Courts.

ARE THEY KIDDING?????

IS THIS A F****** JOKE OF SOME DISCRIPTION?????

It must have cost into the thousands to drag my sorry bottom into that Court.

How about this.

A quick phone call to say "Right, pay this or this is what will happen"?? Of course i would have paid, ive never, ever been in trouble with the Police, EVER.

What a joke. Needed to share.

Tell you what though, anyone who says prison isnt a deterant are very wrong. Shook me up for days.

Where do you live, might I ask? Your use of the term "magistrate"implies this didn't happen in the US. For the most part, I don't think we're quite there yet, but we're getting closer every day. Cutbacks on everything but security - security that is for the government and those who profit from it.

Parking tickets??

And they just barge into your home without your consent?

This is disturbing to say the least.

Keep on knocking on my door cops cause you're not getting in.

Well, I'm truly sorry, friend. Seems the whole world is going crazy at the moment. In the states, we're seeing things in the last decade that would've been unthinkable previously. I think things are going to get worse before they get better(cliche alert! but true, i'm afraid).

Do you really think they're going to listen to you when they've got battering rams, etc?

I'd like to know if the OP's tale is true because it sounds too good to be.

Absolutely a true story.

I explained the situation to the Magistrate but She not interested, at all.

The Court had been put in session for the whole day to deal with fine avoiding offenders, which apparently i am one.

Its beyond belief.

I feel you on this one. Back in 07' I was eating lunch at Ruby Tuesdays with my fiance. I received a call from my friend who's mother worked for the sheriff's department. He told me that I had a warrant for my arrest. I lived about 80 miles from Memphis TN and the warrant was in Memphis. We got home and I looked it up and it said "Passing bad checks under $500" So being naive about things like this having never delt with the law before I drove down to Memphis with a friend and went to the jail and explained to the officer at the desk what I knew and that I wanted to take care of it. He immediately turned me around, threw me down to his desk and hand cuffed me. He walked me outside and down Poplar ave (one of the busiest streets in Memphis) to the processing area. He could have easily walked me through the building. He handed me over to the jail at that time. I was not allowed to speak to anyone at all. I was allowed nothing to drink. If you were to be staying overnight they said they would give me a cup and a roll of toilet paper. Otherwise, no drink or restroom other than urine. They fingerprinted me and took blood saying they were checking for blood and diseases. 6 hours later I was able to see the judge. Come to find out my ex wife had written a check to Kroger for $40 from my account. I closed my account and moved without knowing there was an outstanding check. Apparently Kroger does not use a collection agency. They just turn everything over to the police to handle. I payed $40 to Kroger to cover the check, $40 to Kroger for bounced check fee, and $280 for court fees. I have never been more angry in my life. I was humiliated and locked up for 6 hours over a $40 mistake. I will never EVER turn myself in again if something like this were to ever happen again. They will have to hunt my butt down.
