He is trying to please people who would literally crap on him for fun.

I think Obama is just giving the GOP enough rope... Challenging them to oppose, perhaps?

Here's how Obama is going to sell it to the American public:

"In order to achieve real progress and break the stalemate in fixing the economy/deficit/debt limit/necessary revenue increases (taxes), I was forced to reluctantly agree to the GOP plan to screw the SS benefits for granny. I will work tirelessly to restore every nickel to our elder citizens in my second term".

And every lib will suck it up, every drop.

I think that this I Don't Care or Know What it is Bill (Health Care) should not of been passed or at least should now be put on the back burner as it's really hurting things much worse being the state the economy was in when it was passed.

It is after all nearly $1 trillion in spending in itself.

I will freely admit I have no idea what "strategy" the Obama administration could (?) be planning. At this point, it looks like complete whimpering surrender to the GOP threat of not raising the debt ceiling unless SS and Medicare are subject to major reductions.
Sure, there has been a history of partisan political maneuvering in this country before, but this newest round is totally beyond deciphering any responsible, or even logical game plan concerning salvaging the future for the "average" taxpayers and working ( or now unemployed ) individuals who stand to lose so much of what they've already contributed to this society through decades of their own hard work. Scew those who belittle them, and call them bloodsuckers instead. Walk a mile in their shoes yourselves, you unfeeling, out-of-touch corporate shills.

Once again, the media is falling for the Obama/Pelosi/Reid strategy of making the GOP appear as if they're going to eat the old and infirmed if the people don't start screaming on their own behalf.

I love the way that they sandbag with this stuff. Seriously. I've never seen the GOP and the corporates so reviled in the eyes of so many people. The Social Security cuts won't ever make it into legislation. The strategy is to make the GOP really push hard for those overwhelmingly unpopular (and for most dependable voters, frightening) cuts by dangling them just in front of them, thereby causing the GOP and the corporates to lose any sense of PR restraint as the big win seems right in their grasp. Then, Obama and the DNC will pull it back, and "do the right thing" - thereby saving the day for all those voters.

Then, the GOP, the Tea Party, and the corporates will overreact with their well-established vitriol, and further doom their chances at a political advancement in 2012. The DNC and Obama got a Healthcare Reform bill passed by dong the same sort of thing, so why is any one surprised that they wouldn't try going direct with this effort? The media and the GOP fell for it last time, and stil;l have no idea what happened to them. Sometimes you have to fool children into allowing you to do the right thing. Especially if those children are too big to take on directly. Not all children are small and easily managed.

Congress has already destroyed social security and raided it years ago. It is going to be broke before 2030 if I recall the story.
Bush attempted to deal with it but was totally shut down on the issue. It can not continue to go as it it. The pyramid scheme needs to be changed. First thing, is to get our government to repay all the money the have taken from it, plus interest.

Jjjjjeeeessssuuuussss, you people are harsh! Did you ever think that it's called politics!? The Republicans say repealing the tax breaks for the rich are off the table. Have you ever played poker? Throw it all on the table just to get these greedy bastards to TALK!!! Obama won't consider Medicare/Medicade/Social Security as part of the deal but these meetings will show the Republicans as who they are, a tool for the Corporate rich because they WILL consider leaving ALL seniors behind. You Republicans or supporters of will be faced with the fact they care NOTHING about you, so why are you blindingly following them. I've noticed ATS is teaming with conservatives or conservative viewpoints 10 to 1 compared to any view on the other side. I'm even suspicious of the OP just racking mud against The Pres. And stirring up unrest among the undecided. I support Bernie Sanders all the way. Did you people know he is the only SOCIALIST official in Congress? That should scare the pants off of most people in ATS that are too stupid to separate socialism from communism and doesn't mean a damn thing the rightwing is saying about socialism.
Relax, watch what happens before you get whiplash blaming Obama before anything is done. Bush Admin raised the debt limit EIGHT TIMES in 8 years! Why is it an issue now? Because we have a Democrat in the Presidency. I'm sure if we did a poll here on ATS Obama would be blamed for the economy. The general public polled say (and correctly/proven,so) that Bush is responsible for our present economic state at 28% Obama? 8%
By a 2-1 ratio American blame Republicans over Democrats!
This not what I see on ATS, sad the general public polled are smarter than the ATS members. But of course SOME people on ATS could be paid to spread political disinformation.
Play some poker and you might understand how things are negotiated!

I would think it is my job, not the governments? So the government raided SS to fund themselves.
The stock market crash with the housing was directly created by the government relaxing credit rules under Clinton, and fault of Congress at that time, Repubs and Dems.
