I forgot to mention that many of the modern antidepressants depress something else . . . libido--sex drive.

I wonder what happens when a 'male enhancement' drug is thrown into the mix.

What a crazy world.

If any of you are concerned about me, don't be. The reason I posted this thread was because of a joke by Christopher Titus, where he talks about Paxil and it's side effects. He says "You may kill yourself but the suicide not will be inspiring!" Which got me to thinking about it. And then Denis Leary does a bit in his "Denis Leary and Friends Present Douche bags and Dough nuts". So I just thought I'd start this thread and get others opinions on the topic.

I think it's only listed as a warning for when people begin to stop using the medication. My doctor put me on antidepressants some years ago, I was on this thing called Effexor - which did absolutely nothing for, and I wasn't even depressed in the first place (no idea why I started taking it, I still ask myself that question to this day). I stopped taking it "cold-turkey", had relentless brain zaps for about a week, then a couple of days of feeling quite miserable, and then I was back to normal, feeling great. This was after about a year and half on this drug. I think people over-react to the warnings of suicidal thoughts, because it's just part of your brain adjusting to the new serotonin levels once you stop using the medication.

well, it was created by a woman named Marsha Linehan, and thats about all i know when it comes to its origins. at the hospital i went to for treatment, they had both CBT and DBT programs there. DBT was more or less designed specifically for patients with borderline personality, but people with different disorders do that treatment as well.

...why would someone willingly put out a medication that could make someones problem so much worse?

I am afraid that is easy to answer and the answer is not very nice. The Powers That Be WANT you dead. And no I am not kidding, unfortunately.

First WHO owns the Pharmaceutical Industry?

History of pharmaceutical interests

In the early half of the 20th century, petrochemical giants organized a coup on the medical research facilities, hospitals and universities. The Rockefeller family sponsored research and donated sums to universities and medical schools which had drug based research. They further extended this policy to foreign universities and medical schools where research was drug based through their "International Education Board". Establishments and research which were were not drug based were refused funding and soon dissolved in favor of the lucrative pharmaceutical industry. In 1939 a "Drug Trust" alliance was formed by the Rockefeller empire and the German chemical company IG Farben (Bayer). After World War Two, IG Farben was dismantled but later emerged as separate corporations within the alliance. Well known companies included General Mills, Kellogg, Nestle, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Procter and Gamble, Roche and Hoechst (Sanofi-Aventis). The Rockefeller empire, in tandem with Chase Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan Chase), owns over half of the pharmaceutical interests in the United States. It is the largest drug manufacturing combine in the world....

IG Farben & Auschwitz

Auschwitz was the largest mass extermination factory in human history. However, few people are aware that Auschwitz was a 100% subsidiary of IG Farben....

After WWII, IG Farben attempted to shake its abominable image through corporate restructuring and renaming. So great has been their success that the public has no idea that it many of the men responsible for such atrocities, were able to carry on their work even after the collapse of the Nazi regime. Namely, a medical paradigm that relies almost exclusively highly toxic drugs. Such men were in control of the large chemical and pharmaceutical companies, both well before and after Hitler. The Nuremberg Tribunal convicted 24 IG Farben board members and executives on the basis of mass murder, slavery and other crimes. Incredibly, most of them had been released by 1951 and continued to consult with German corporations. The Nuremberg Tribunal dissolved IG Farben into Bayer, Hoechst and BASF, each company 20 times as large as IG Farben in 1944. For almost three decades after WWII, BASF, Bayer and Hoechst (Aventis) filled their highest position, chairman of the board, with former members of the Nazi regime. Bayer has been sued by survivors of medical experiments... www.sourcewatch.org...

What else is known about the Rockefellers?

The Dark Roots of EUGENICS
By Dennis L. Cuddy, Ph.D.

...during the 1870s, Oxford lecturer John Ruskin would instill in his students, like Cecil Rhodes, the concept that they were “the best northern blood” and should rule the world. Rhodes scholarships were not only given to students from America and Commonwealth nations, but also to those from Germany beginning in the very early 1900s. Germans at this time were also being conditioned to see historical progression in terms of “blood and land,” a sort of Teutonic knighthood descended from the Aryans. In 1914, Madame Blavatsky’s Aryan doctrine had spread through Germany and Austria, and it was from her writings that a young Adolph Hitler learned the meaning of the Aryan swastika....

...eugenics proponent Woodrow Wilson signed into law a brutal sterilization act, and the next year eugenics adherent Theodore Roosevelt wrote of the need to improve “racial qualities.” .....

Men of wealth like Andrew Carnegie and the Rockefellers played an important part in funding the eugenics movement.

In 1904, the Carnegie Institution, with Skull & Bones member Daniel Coit Gilman as president, financed the establishment of a biological experiment station related to eugenics at Cold Spring Harbor, New York. In 1910, the Eugenics Record Office was begun there and later received funding from the Rockefeller Foundation after John D. Rockefeller, Jr. formed the Bureau of Social Hygiene.

It was during this time of the early 20th Century that Rockefeller introduced Margaret Sanger to the monied elite who would help her form the Birth Control League which would later become Planned Parenthood. The November 1921 issue of Sanger’s Birth Control Review carried the heading “Birth Control: To Create A Race of Thoroughbreds,” and Sanger would later advocate eugenically limiting “dysgenic stocks” such as blacks, Hispanics, American Indians and Catholics, as well as “slum dwellers” such as Jewish immigrants.

In 1926, Rockefeller money funded the founding of the American Eugenics Society, and the next year on May 2, 1927, the U.S. Supreme Court by an 8 to 1 majority ruled in Buck v. Bell that certain “unfit” people could be forcibly sterilized. Regarding this ruling, British [Fabian Socialist] Professor Harold Laski wrote his friend Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes: “Sterilize all the unfit, among whom I include all fundamentalists.”

Across the nation during the 1930s, state legislatures (eventually 38) enacted sterilization laws regarding the “feeble-minded.....

I would suggest you read up on the Fabian society mentioned above.

The Fabians, the Round Table, and the Rhodes Scholars

Bankrolling The Bolshevik Revolution

The Fabian Society and its off shoots aka as TPTB contains people such a as Tony Blair, former UK Prime Minister and chair of the Fabian Society, Former Pres. Bill Clinton a Rhodes Scholar and George Soros who attended the London School of Economics (LSE), where he studied philosophy and economics, LSE was founded by the Webbs who also founded the Fabian Society.

Another founding member is Shaw. It is "enlightening" to read about what this socialist had to say about humanity.

THE REAL GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
...Here are just a few examples:

EXTERMINATION OF THE “SOCIALLY INCOMPATIBLE”

“The notion that persons should be safe from extermination as long as they do not commit willful murder, or levy war against the Crown, or kidnap, or throw vitriol, is not only to limit social responsibility unnecessarily, and to privilege the large range of intolerable misconduct that lies outside them, but to divert attention from the essential justification for extermination, which is always incorrigible social incompatibility and nothing else.”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, “On the Rocks” (1933), Preface.

USE OF GAS CHAMBERS

“We should find ourselves committed to killing a great many people whom we now leave living, and to leave living a great many people whom we at present kill. We should have to get rid of all ideas about capital punishment …

A part of eugenic politics would finally land us in an extensive use of the lethal chamber. A great many people would have to be put out of existence simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them.”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, Lecture to the Eugenics Education Society, Reported in The Daily Express, March 4, 1910.

KILLING THOSE “UNFIT TO LIVE”

“The moment we face it frankly we are driven to the conclusion that the community has a right to put a price on the right to live in it … If people are fit to live, let them live under decent human conditions. If they are not fit to live, kill them in a decent human way. Is it any wonder that some of us are driven to prescribe the lethal chamber as the solution for the hard cases which are at present made the excuse for dragging all the other cases down to their level, and the only solution that will create a sense of full social responsibility in modern populations?”

Source: George Bernard Shaw, Prefaces (London: Constable and Co., 1934), p. 296.

And to think we were expected to "admire" this sicko's writing in school... I think I am going to be sick.

What are these natural depression remedies? I'm interested for my mums sake as she is severely depressed and is taking anti-depressants which make her feel that the worlds against her when she hasn't got them. She was never as bad as she is now before taking them. I just want my mum back to how she was, I've tried to help her find a happy place in her head but she gets knocked back and plunges back into darkness.

On a side-note, I'm from the U.K and I have noticed something very wrong with the way our hospitals deal with young mothers. Once they've had the baby they leave hospital with the usual Bounty pack for new mothers, photo's and........................... a nice packet of anti-depressants. Is this not wrong, do we really want our future generations being dragged up by doped up parents?

Thanks for the tip.

I'm curious . . . how long was your treatment with Marsha Linehan's methodology?

Does a sufferer have to be extra motivated or do you think the average person could manage it?

It has nothing to do with Tai Chi at all. It can be Yoga, karate, boxing, running etc.etc. The "cure" in these methods is nothing else but the physical movement itself. Sporting generates all sorts of hormones and chemicals that create "happy" feelings and relaxation. But it not a guaranteed cure. It can help to stabilize.

In the end I don't think anyone really knows what depression exactly is. Is it mental or physical. After years of psychotherapy I have concluded that it's mostly physical and hereditary. Yet another portion is mental as well. I guess a combination of both. Mind and body aren't separated. Life's just a bitch.
