A few weeks ago I read a story about China dumping 97% of their stake in U.S. Treasury holdings. Well now it seems that the with the weak dollar, the Chinese have been buying up U.S. oil and gas companies like there is no tomorrow. We’re importing oil from the Middle East and the Chinese see the future in the U.S. but WE DON’T??? WHAT IS CONGRESS THINKING?!!!

I remember when Japan was going to own the US. I think it was in the 1980's, everyone was so concerned about it, because the Japanese were buying up US real estate. Nothing came of it.

I will say the same thing that I did then, American companies used to own all the sugar refineries in Cuba. They don't own them anymore, haven't since Castro took over. Did they get anything for them when Castro nationalized the sugar industry? No they didn't. That is the reason that there is still an embargo preventing American companies from doing business with Cuba, because he seized the industries that were owned by American companies.

Short of military action, the Chinese will not get to keep anything if we don't want them to.

? wouldn't you do the same if you were them? Whatever the $ value at least they will get there $ back in assets they are potentially worth a lot more.

Hey, it's ok if communists buy companies in the US...free markets....just keep them out of the government right?

It's not really funny....everyone seems to be worried about socialists in government when private business has been wheeling and dealing with communists for a very long time...in fact it's their greatest investment...huge boost to profits.

Idaho? Selling there land to China??? First question, is this article UK based? comment...dis info, second question, have you ever been to Idaho, or any of those northwest states? If you said yes then my comment will be well understood, comment, Idaho is probably one of the most white states in the USA, and probably most racist white Americans. I know China has placed a few banks here, probably have some business's going on here also, however to think Idaho will let China make a city in its state NO WAY. Also if China would supposedly be trying to infiltrate America, I promise you/them, we Americans will defend ourselves families and.neighbors, that is a shout out to any gov that thinks we Americans don't have a cracking point.

That story was a lie. They got rid of 97% of their short-term holdings, which only accounted for something like 3% of their total US debt holdings. I knew at that time, that this lie would continue to perpetuate itself, sadly I was correct.

There ARE a ton racists in Idaho. Coeur D'Alene is like a KKK training ground, or at least it was when I visited it like 10 years ago. From my hotel room right over the main street by the lake, I saw countless pickups with gun racks, confederate flags, many with "UKA" flags and stickers (UKA is "United Klans of America") Not sure that group is actually still around these days, and that those people were actual members, but they obviously supported those ideas.

Also ran across a few groups of, I'm assuming AB, who wore the whole combat boots, black bomber jackets or whatever they are called, bald head style going on. The SS lightning bolts on the neck were a pretty good indication they were AB or some other similar group.

At the lake itself, I saw a man with his wife and son, he had a "W.A.R" tattoo on his chest, with a "TM" underneath that.

Absolutely TONS of racist groups there. I am a blond haired, blue eyed man and even I was kind of scared when I was there. So much hate.

Now that is the kind of direct action that you have to admire! About time the U.K took a hard look at the theft it has comitted on its own citizens since the Thatcher era, and made a similar move to sieze back and nationalize important state assets.

Idaho's Gov., Butch Otter is in favor of giving(as well as other Gov officials of the state), not selling the land to China. His agreement for it and argument comes from Idaho's long sanding trade to/from China. Canada has given land to China in the past. The Idahostatesman.com covers much of the news on this. Other outlets have picked it up from there. The long standing stereotype of Idaho being racist as a state is not going to keep the ID Gov., from giving land to the country, as their minds are already made up. Citizens in action(or in question as you mentioned) will be a different story. The land that will be given, is south of Bosie.

I don't believe it's the right thing for the state to do, or any state. American's in question should not be linked in a racist manner,as it is more political and land should just not be given away because of owed debt and other factors.

The Chinese and many other international investors are smart and see the US as still being a safe and good investment. The Japanese went on a shopping spree back in the 80s as others have already mentioned and nothing came of it. Reason being is that they don't buy into all the over blown Gloom and Doom that many try to peddle around here and still others eat up like manna from heaven

Also, if push comes to shove the US like any other Nation on the planet would simply nationalize their purchases/investment as the result of being a threat to national security. Besides, for all those who have been crying about not having a job or how horrible the American economy is doing etc etc etc. Here is a huge influx of cash that will help the economy grow.

Isn't that what everybody wants?

There's tons of racists, NeoNazis, Skinheads, clan members, all over the US. Just to let people know, that don't LIVE up this way, these groups are heavily moderated and the city of CDA does try to keep out this kind of activity. As well as the local people and North Idaho College. It's not like it goes unnoticed. Action is taken. Just a few weeks ago a man that was suspected(from past protests and Internet comments) of racist involvement of planned protests was arrested.

Very true...but that was a completely different situation.

You'd think AMERICAN COMPANIES would have that same worry with China...would they not? With the way our government deals with corporations lately, I don't see nationalizing industry as a national security issue happening. That would automatically be played as communism or fascism by those industries affected and whom control the media...pretty much the same thing that's happening now! That's all we've been hearing about. OMG they are going to nationalize the banks, big oil, etc.

Just my take....hope all is well.

buy low sell high and diversify what any good capitalistic business man does.

chinas land and business aquisitions is just this to save money from shipping their goods over here and to other parts of the world.

a distribution hub so to speak china is not limited to the business practices that it the us government makes our corporations do.

and it is also a fact that more foreigners own more of the us than the us citizens do its a double edged sword that is sooner or later going to come back on us.

china can say so what they made our cash and pull up and go elsewhere.

Not really.

Do you have any idea how many US companies have invested heavily in China or know how many US owned companies have opened shop in China? The list is pretty darn long Wal-Mart, McDonald's, Starbucks, Ford, General Motors, Boeing, Burger King, Pizza hut, GE, Coca Cola etc etc etc.

Earth has an International Global economy now. China knows it needs to invest/put back money into our economy to maintain their largest consumer markets to keep their factories going. For example, earlier this year they announced a 40+ Billion dollar order from Boeing in the US for some commercial jumbo jets.
