Prime Minister John Howard has been seeking legal advice but has signalled the Government will accept Labor's demands.

The Howard Government will unveil its final position on Labor's amendments to the Australia-US free trade agreement (FTA) later this morning.

Labor Party trade spokesman Stephen Conroy has introduced amendments to safeguard the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme into the Senate.

I've been following this on Question Time last week, & the Government shuffled & side-stepped, dodging the issue, saying the amendment was totally unnecessary - but why were they fighting an "unnecessary" amendment tooth & nail?
