My guess is they were probably at a gun store with a range, and possibly test-firing it. I kinda wondered that too. After I watched it a few more times and saw different versions of it, that's the only explanation that made sense to me.

Completely true. People without access to a gun will find any means they can to murder or commit a crime.
Seeing that kid with the gun was horrible. The only thing I can think is that it's honestly better that the man got shot than the kid. I think it says in the video that the guy died. That was definitely the worst part of any of the videos and made me stop laughing.
